Does anyone know if you keep the firearm issued to you during FBI NAT when you leave the academy, or do you have to buy one/get another one issued to you? :gun:

I know you don't have to buy one (unless you wan't something different from what is issued - Glock 23) but I don't know whether you keep the one issued at academy.

I'm sure someone will jump in with the correct answer on that.

I'm confused on which handgun is currently being used. Is it the Glock or the Sig? and which model? Thanks.

Thanks for the correction. I meant model 22 but wrote 23, but as you point out you can opt for the smaller model 23 as well, so I was sort of correct by accident :D .

So if you want to carry a personally owned weapon from the FBIs approved list, do you have to turn in the Glock?

I'm not a big fan of the Glock as a primary although I do like the G27 as a BUG or off-duty. My Sig P229(.40); on the other hand, is a tack driver.

You do not have to turn in your Glock. You are issued either a model 17 or 22.

The FBI has a program called the Personally Owned Weapons Program. Many agents have a second gun and alot of Sig models are included in the list. You will be able to use it as your primary weapon after you qualify with it. It also has to go back to the academy for some testing before you can use it.
