Recently, I've taken both a ride on the lightning and a direct OC spray. The taser was the worst pain I've ever felt but only for 5 seconds. OC was bad but not exactly the kind of pain that would make you want to die. I enjoyed my training because like the military, we had a obstacle course where we had to make different strikes and weapon retention. So we have "I wanna die" versus "This sucks". Not for sure which I would rather be hit with again...what do yall think?

I have done the OC and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I get the taser next thurs. so I will have to wait and see which is worse. As long as it dosen't make me crap or piss myself I should be ok :)

Remember; whatever you spray on the perp you are spraying on yourself and in your ride.

More than likely, you won't piss on yourself. On my ride, it just hurt like hell. I did it with a buddy of mine and we interlocked arms. The electricity traveled from his left foot (location of one probe) through our arms and to my right foot (the other probe). It locked up my entire body but most of the pain was all on my right side.
The great thing about OC was that you could fight through it. The taser on the other hand, probably not. If you do, let me know because I want to be your manager for your tour.

In defense of OC Spray. I've seen tasers fired at people and have no effect (b/c they were high dope), then the users takes to long for a reload. On the other hand, I've seen OC used as breakfast.
To enable the Taser to fit on your belt and or if your waist is not big enough, it is recommended to take your baton or OC off? If this is the case, I prefer to remove my baton and carry my OC. Next install an extra flashlight ring for a wooded baton.

We got sprayed 2 weeks ago here at the DEA Academy. We were inflicted with, and will be issued, 18% OC spray. Guys who have had it before at other academies (at lower percentages - I guess 5% is common) said that the stuff we got was super nasty. I don't know the name of it, but will post it when I get my can after graduation.
For myself, getting sprayed was one of the most painful experiences of my life. It felt like my face was melting off. I would say it was more painful than passing a kidney stone. It was the gift that kept on giving for the next 2 days with re-occurances in the morning shower. Good times. Before you think I'm a wuss try this 18% stuff out. Lookout.
Guys here who have had both said they would rather be tazered. I guess I would too; but we don't get a chance to ride that bull...

I would rather be sprayed any day than the painful fill of the taser. I'm not a police officer, I'm a Health Care Security Officer at a local hospital and we carrry the asp pepperspray and M-26 advance taser. We do go through a small training academy similar to local police but not as in depth.

I got tased the other day and I must say I was pretty impressed with its take down power. It was the most intense pain I have ever felt. I thought OC was easier because it didn't have the knock down power of the taser. Once that current hits your body you are going to hit the ground hard. Excellent non-leathal tool for us on the street.

Nothing says barbecue like 50,000 :fork: volts. Good luck to all of you future LEO's when you get to ride the buffalo.
I would take the taser only because it lasts 5 seconds and not hours.
Anyone use the foam? I was trained on it and have the option of the foam or stream. Would like to hear opinions good and bad.
