View Full Version : Vehicle gun racks
I'm looking for some options for an overhead, locking vehicle long-gun rack. Something other than Big Sky Racks (awful pricey for not even installing them). I need to lock up an AR-15 (carbine) and an 870. Something that'll fit in a truck would be just peachy.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You mean they won't let you put a gun rack in the back window, like most of your "customers"? :D
Seriously though, you might want to do a search on safety concerns regarding roof mounted weapons racks.
Yeah, I know it isn't optimum, but the only alternative is an under-seat "truck vault", which is awkward to open and close and which would be tough to get at in a hurry.
Probably what I'll end up going with, though.

You have a extended cab F-150 right? You could get a vertical rack placed in the extended cab portion. While searching for a center console for my Crown Vic, I saw a gun shelf that mounts on the roof over the dash. It would probably hold the 870 and is really cheap, around $100 or so. Another option to look at. The roof mount is probably the most practical, but I've heard a few horror stories about officers getting decapitated during accidents. As you know, I don't have to worry about long guns
I think I know the over-the-dash one you're talking about - kinda like the one's in Cabela's? Problem is it has to be a locking rack, and those don't lock.
As you know, I don't have to worry about long guns
You could always go to "another" region and carry the Marlin .45-70 - nothing like a 580-grain bullet to make your shoulder hate you (and that's after only 10 rounds or so) :). C'mon - you can justify having one in FL, can't you?

Krellum, I think I saw one a while ago for a shotgun that you can fit in over the visors, going across...from the pic, it looked secure enough,so i don't know if that could be an option for u or not?
Krellum, I sent you a PM since it contains a commercial link. ;)
"A gun rack... a gun rack. I don't even own *a* gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack. What am I gonna do... with a gun rack?" - Wayne's World
I had to quote one of the best/worst movies of all time. :D

No other region for me, but It is right whale season, and what better way to euthanize a beached whale than with a Marlin. :D
I thought of another option for you. Just buy the small time-release clamps and mount them wherever in your truck cab. Should be cost effective too.
Thanks for the responses, guys. I'm going to float some of your ideas to my SAC and see what he says.
