I purchased a used Glock 17 (9mm) with three, 17-round magazines all for $400.00. I eventually purchased Trijion (or however it is spelled) Night Sights, for another $100.00.

I haven't really shopped for guns lately, but that seems to be a good price. Can you PM me as to where you got it?
Thanks.

Oh, I think they're all about the same....
Seriously, that's a pretty vague question: what kind of 9mm, manufacturer, type of finish, where are you buying it, etc. Lots of variables, here.

Before you rush out and buy just any ol' 9mm based on price I recommend that you find out what other officers are carrying where ever you applied and what kind of duty leather they wear. Holster manufacturers don't make holsters for every pistol out there, you don't want to make a poor pistol choice only to find out your can't get a holster for that flashy new nickel plated Taurus or that budget green plastic S&W.
Don't buy anything without night sights factory installed; you'll pay almost a 100% premium putting them on a gun after the fact.
Don't go cheap on a duty weapon. Your life and the lives of others depend on what you choose. Buy a common police issued type, something whatever academy you'll be attending is familiar with and trains on. Expect to pay about $600 dollars for a good quality duty weapon with night sights and three hi capacity magazine.
Good luck.

Chaser-
I purchased the gun from another officer.
I bought a new Glock 19 (compact, but close to full size) for about $575...It came with the Trijicon night sights already installed...
Personally, I prefer the 19 over the full size G17...Its smaller than the full size, but larger than the sub-compact...

With a letter from the dep't saying it is to used in the line of duty, I bought my Glocks (22 & 27) for $399/each; which they tell me is the state purchase price. That included three hi-cap (LE) mags. They also threw in a nifty bicycle lock

Why did you need a letter from the department???

The letter was so they would honor the state contract price of $399. Otherwise it would be normal retail, which was considerably higher.

I'm thinking of buying a Walther P99 9mm for my wife. I've seen them for $500, think you can find it cheaper somewhere?

I know a guy who just got a Colt M4 for his wife. Not a bad trade if you ask me. :) Sorry, couldn't resist.

I hate how the price of Glocks has skyrocketed lately. I remember when I bought my USP .45(5 years ago) I paid $600 brand new. All the Glocks that I looked at were between $400-$475(This is in CA mind you). The other day I went to a local dealer and he was asking $585 for a G27/G26 and over $600 for a Glock 23. This is before taxes, NICS, etc. Even if I buy them on Gunbroker it still comes out to about the same after all the shipping and transfer papers are done.
I suppose my only downfall is I won't buy another used firearm again.

Tell me about it... its been an incredible pain in the a$$ trying to find a duty holster for a Taurus PT92... I should have just coughed up the extra $100-$200 and got a Beretta 92 and saved myself a ton of effort and energy trying to find gear for the Taurus... Probably in the end I think I'm going to cave in and get a Glock 22 through the department... D'oh! Glock 22 w/night sights and 2 or 3 LE mags for $480 is what I believe someone quoted me...

little cyclone,
have you tried looking for holsters on ebay? I've found a few really good ones for way cheaper than what I would have spent in a store. The best thing is you can buy some used ones for 5 bucks to see if you like them or not. Its a hell of alot better than shelling out $60-$70 on holster that you end up hating.

This post was on Glocktalk concerning law enforcement/active military personnel prices for Glocks:
Actually, Glock has been offering these discounted prices for some time now. But you do have to purchase from your State's distributor. The discounted price list I have is as follows:
G17,19,26 $398.20
G22,23,27 $398.20
G31,32,33 $398.20
G21,30,36 $464.20
G20,29 $464.20
G34,35 $480.70
G37 $414.70
These prices are with the stock fixed Glock sights.
