The news story is still breaking, but a Philadelphia Police Officer was gunned down last night in a bar celebrating his birthday. He was with his partner, fiance and co-workers. The shooter was chased and eventually shot by Hasan's partner.

Here's the report from the CBS affiliate in Philly...

"An off-duty police officer and another man were fatally shot in a disturbance at a nightclub early Saturday, police said.

Officer Hasan Long, 27, was out celebrating his fiancDe’s birthday when an argument started and he was shot twice in the chest, police said.

Another officer then fatally shot the alleged gunman outside the Asmara Conxion Lounge as he fled, authorities said.

Officer Aquil Byrd, who was at the club with Long, shot the suspected gunman in the front torso, Homicide Sgt. Bob Kuhlmeier said Saturday morning.

Long, who was shot at about 2 a.m., was pronounced dead at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He had been with the department for four years.

Kuhlmeier declined to describe further details of the shooting or the weapons involved. The department does not prohibit off-duty officers from carrying their city-issued weapons, he said.

Both shootings were under investigation Saturday. The 30-year-old alleged gunman was from Philadelphia, but his name was not immediately released until family could be notified."

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this officer
