Wayne County, Michigan Airport Officer is Killed in I-94 Crash

Detroit, MI -- A Detroit Metropolitan Airport Authority officer died from injuries he received Wednesday in a crash on Interstate 94, Michigan State Police said.
Around 10 a.m., state troopers were called to I-94 near Wayne Road where a red four-door was sitting next to a light pole. The passenger and driver had to be taken out of the car with the Jaws of Life.
Both were taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti, where the driver is still in critical condition. Michael Scarbrough, 42, of Southgate died from injuries in the crash.
Both were on duty sergeants with the airport authority police department, state police said.
The name of the officer killed was Sergeant Michael Scarbrough, according to The Officer Down Memorial Page.

Funeral Arrangements: Visitation will take place Saturday, February 12 at the Czopek Funeral Home, 2157 Oak Street, Wynadotte, MI 48192 from 4 to 5 p.m. for family, and from 5 to 9 p.m. for friends. Family and friends will have combined visitation Sunday, February 13 from Noon to 9 p.m.
A funeral procession will leave from the Czopek Funeral Home to St. Cyprian Church, 13249 Pennsylvania, Riverview, MI 48912 Monday, February 14 at 10:15 a.m.
The funeral service for Scarbrough will then take place at St. Cyprian Church.
Sergeant Scarbrough was killed in an automobile accident on I-94, near Wayne Road, during a period of snowy and icy conditions. The department vehicle he was in left the roadway and struck a utility pole in the highway median. Sergeant Scarbrough and another sergeant in the vehicle with him were both transported to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital where Sergeant Scarbrough succumbed to his injuries.
