Hello,
Just transferred to NC and looking for guidance on the purchase of an off duty weapon. What do i need for the purchase; Credentials, CCW, Letterhead?
Thanks in advance..
Don't think anyone on this board can help you unless you give us the name of your agency. Most off duty policies are going to be agency specific. Best advise would be to check with your firearms person or your policy book.

Here are the rules on buying a gun in NC:
To purchase a handgun you must be; a resident of North Carolina, at least 21 years old, have a valid state issued photo identification with your name, address, birth date and signature on it; additionally, you must have a pistol permit from the sheriff of the county you live in.
To obtain a pistol permit contact your county sheriff to learn the exact procedures involved. Procedures vary widely from county to county. Permits cost $5.00 each and are valid for five years from date of issue no matter who the current sheriff is or where you live in North Carolina. These pistol permits are good for any handgun at any firearms retailer in the state and are surrendered (one for each handgun purchased) at the time of purchase to the dealer.
