I couldn't find any info when I did a search so here goes- I noticed a vacancy with DHS for a 'CIS Assistant' in various duty stations, an 1802 series job. Does anyone know if this would be a worthwhile position for someone who wants to get into FLE (1811)?

To be honest, I think there are better positions to use as a "foot in the door" to FLE. The CIS assistant will rarely if ever interact with ICE or other law enforcement employees, except on a personal basis in offices where the agencies are co-located.

The CIS assistant will gain experience in legacy INS databases, however, for what that is worth. AND, you could apply for vacancies which are only open to current federal employees.
