I have made it past the Background for a couple of departments and have the polygraph test with each department in the very near future. Since my last Background meeting about 1 1/2 months ago, I have applied and taken the written test, physical tests, written psych tests with 2 more departments. The tests for each department were condensed to be on the same day.
I just received a Polygraph packet to fill out for the exam. On it, it asks for all of the departments I have applied/tested with. Obviously, the two new departments I tested for were not listed in my original Background Packet and were not brought up at my last Background meeting since I had not been accepted to test or had not taken part in the tests. The question I have is will listing the two new departments in the Poly questionaire have a negative impact on the test? Could this be used against me in way that states I was not honest? Of course, I am going to list that applied and tested since my last meeting. I just want to know what to expect.
Same thing happened to me prior to my DEA poly. I also added another job to my employment history that I had failed to list in the original application. This is absolutely no problem. As long as you list the other departments you will do fine. Odds are your other applications will never even be adressed on the actual exam. If you are worried about small details such as this one then it is a good indication that you are in the right frame of mind for a polygraph examination. You should have no problem.

They may not even ask about them. The polys I have had they never asked, What and/or How many departments have you applied to. If they do be honest, they can not expect that anyone looking for employment in LE wouldn't of applied elsewere since you filled the paperwork out. Relax and take your time, you'll do just fine. Good Luck!

I had my first poly test yesterday. I was asked if anything in the questionaire had changed since the Background and I told him about the 2 new applications.
It went good.....at least that is what the detective said. I was told he would finish writing up my file over the next day and that everything would be fine. He said I should expect a call from personnel in the next 2 to 4 days. The call would be a conditional offer. So, I will keep my fingers crossed. If I make to that point, I will only have one big hurtle left and that it the Oral Psych.

Sounds like your moving along pretty good. It sounds like you passed the poly. You should be very proud. It is tough to get even this far in NJ, you sound like your almost in. I wish you the best. Good Luck and stay safe.

I guess I have no problem stating where in MD. Its Montgomery County PD. I was making posts about the process on the old message board forum. If I make it, I will have plenty of questions about the area. I will need to sell two houses and find a place to live in the area. I know housing is very expensive.

OK, I did the same. Moving away from NJ to a DC area LE agency. I rememer your post now. I will be staying with a relative in Montgomery County during training. It seems to be a very nice area and a great PD. Good Luck, maybe I'll see you down there.

Great. I have heard good words about the department. Plenty of private industry work in the area as well. So, I know my fiancee will have no problem getting a job there.
If I make, I will keep you in mind when I have questions.
Thanks.
