On the texas dps website, it says that you have to
accepet a postion in any of the uniformed services.
Do you normally not start off in patrol? What is the
chances of going straight to patrol?
What is the hours,8 or 12 hour shifts?
And is there alot of overtime?
From what I found out today, after the academy you are placed in whatever position is needed and in the division that needs people. The recruiter said it all depends on who needs people.
As far as overtime I didn't get to ask.
Yes you can go straight to patrol. Where is it going to be, who knows? While in the academy towards the end, you will be able to look at all of the locations and slots open for each location where you can request to go. However, you will have two options available to you. You can pick service over location or you can pick location over service. So you have the option to go back close to where you live and maybe get stuck in license and weight or DL, or you may get lucky and get a patrol slot. If I am accepted I will have a good oppurtunity to come back to my local area and be on patrol because I live in a large metropolitan area. Whatever you get, after the first year you may transfer as often as you like to any open slot in Tx.
