View Full Version : FBI Invest Spec....PTSD?

I have an interview coming up soon for the IS position with the FBI. However, as much as I don't want to get into it, I was diagnosed with PTSD after a year in Iraq, and now take a low dose of Paxil for it. So, am I just wasting my time going through the process (i.e. is it a disqualifier?). I assume I should be honest on the SF 86, which I also assume they will use for the PSI and poly. The SF 86 is now taken over the FD 140 from what I gather, and it asks about mental issues, although the follow up with my medical provider will only ask if it interferes with my handling of national security issues. I already have a military secret clearance, so I guess my question is if the Paxil will disqualify me. Thanks in advance for your time!

Here's more...
On the SF 86 they only ask if you have seen a mental health professional and to give the name and dates. Then the release form states that they will only ask the doc if the condition will 'affect judgement, etc, especially in dealing with sensitive, national security info'. It sounds like they don't ask what the condition is at all. Would they during the psi or poly? I guess it might show up in bloodwork.

I don't know if it is automatic disqualifier. You'll be asked in your BI interview. Answer the questions honestly is my advice. I don't know if there are any legal restrictions on what they can and cannot ask you in the interview about mental health history, or how in-depth they can go...

I, just like every housewife in the states, have a little depression problem and have to take Paxil as well. I am curious about this too. So my little post here is bumping it up.

Read the 3 question sf-86 medical release, after the statement that reads: does this subject have any condition... if the answer is no, it may not be a problem, if the answer is yes, then info such as prognosis, type of problems, medication and how long does problem last, effects, etc have to be addressed.
See how the FBI deals w/ this issue to get a better gauge
good luck

more likely you will need to have a follow-up that will require your therapist to say that you can handle stress and blah blah blah......i had to have a follow-up on this and it was painless it is just another delay. it isn't an automatic dq
