That was, in fact, your PSI. Amazing huh? You had it and didn't even know it. That was the case with me. They'll call you somewhere toward the end of the process to schedule your physical.
Hey, thanks...and how far are you in the process...or are you now a SSG?

CBP, did they give you a list of cities that has IS openings at your interview?
GM
I went to Atlanta for interview, so not sure if location of interview has anything to do with city location but some cities where mentioned. No written list was given, only in passing was any sites given as a possible spot for a vacancy. As I am only interested in a certain city/state, when that one was mentioned I blocked out all others...but from what i can recall Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama all had possible city locations....the larger cities(FO) in those states. Sorry for not being more helpful.

Oh' thanks. Atleast there are cities in the South.
GM
I interviewed this past February (2005) and received a call about two weeks ago to come in for a poly and fingerprinting. I am scheduled to do this the first week of May. By the way, I am told that this might be an all-day process. Is there more to it than just the poly/fingerprinting? Any tips on how I might best prepare myself? Thanks.
Oh...and by the way, the cities that I was told they are recruiting for are: Honolulu, New Orleans, Seattle and I think South (maybe North) Carolina.
Sorry, haven't had internet access for a while...
Applied: 11/04
Interviewed, drug test, fingerprinted, PSI, received COE: 3/05
With all the above happening in one day, they are trying to expedite applicants as quick as possible, but I'm guessing (somewhat educated) that they are backed up with physicals. When I did this first go around in 96, that's where the snag was. Many, MANY people to give a clean bill of health this time than 9 years ago.
Potential cities (again, educated guess): Charlotte, Bham, ATL, NO, Miami.
Just do what EVERYONE on this forum does best: sit and wait. If it helps, you might even consider yourselves in pre-Q training since that is EXACTLY what you will do in the job.
ATLIS
Atlis,
I'm pretty much at the same exact spot as you except for the PSI. I posted my timeline in another thread, but no one seems to have looked at that one. Well anyway here it is:
Applied: 11/04
Panel / COE / FP / Drug: 03/05
Request for more documentation: 03/05

A little strange, but I recently received a second COE letter in the mail. Anyone know why this might be?
I think they may have changed the office I am processing out of.
Talked to my AC today and he made a statement that i should be getting another COE, a more offical looking one than the one I got at my interview. When I get this one, it would mean that things should be starting to happen...as for as poly/bi/med.

Still nothing as far as results of my Poly/PSI. Almost two weeks, I guess that is a good sign.
Got email today about my COE and needing a current SF-50 on me...looks like things are starting to happen....I hope and pray!!

Congratulations on your COE.

So my SSG application seems to be moving at almost lightening speed. From the time that I received the initial call in late January until now I have already gone through my panel interview, PSI, poly, fingerprinting and my medical. The BI has been underway for quite some time, and may, in fact, be nearing completion (if not already completed). I think it's kind of frightening to see the FED moving so quickly...but TRUST me, I am NOT complaining!
In any case, there are two potential glitches that have popped up in the last week or so. The first is an issue about me having a positive PPD (a.k.a. TB skin test). Everyone I have spoken to so far (including a guy from one of the National TB Centers) seems to think this should be a non-issue. The person at the National Center said that since I DO not have TB it should in no way factor into my application process. So I'll gather up whatever documentation I can, forward it to my processing FO and HOPE that HQ also feels that it's no big deal.
The second potential glitch came up just today. I received a call from an S/A at my local field office saying that he needed to see me ASAP to ask a few questions about my application. So, even though I was at work, I dropped everything and drove to the FO to speak with him. As it turns out, he had only one question...regarding my finances. I suppose the credit check they ran said that I was 30 days past due on one of my credit cards. I was SHOCKED to hear this as I am usually pretty good with paying the bills (not always on time, but not usually 30 days late either). In any case, I told him that I had paid over $1000 last month, and that I should be in good standing as far as I know. I also explained that it's not out of the question that I may have been 30 days late at some point in the past, but that I wasn't aware of exactly when. At that point he mentioned two things to me: 1) He said that he believed what I was telling him, and that he just needed some verification. 2) He mentioned that it was a GOOD thing that HQ was asking him to do this follow-up with me. Apparently he has to submit a report on me to HQ by tomorrow.
So here's the thing...It turns out that my credit card is NOT currently delinquent/past due, and I faxed this info to the S/A. However, it MAY have been past due at some point recently. Clearly this is NOT a pattern for me, and I am usually VERY good with my finances (no real debt other than the credit card balances of less than $2000). I just don't want the Bureau to think I am irresponsible when it comes to my finances. Any feedback here? Should I be worried?

U should not be worried 4 these kind of problems. Your situation is very common among FBI applicants. You are good to go.
GM
Whew! Thanks GM. I'd hate to have come this far in the process only to be bounced for forgetting one credit card payment.
So just wondering if anyone has heard anthing in the way of a final offer recently? I just submitted my last bit of follow-up paperwork on Tuesday, and my AC tells me that everything is in order. I guess that means that I am now in the dreaded holding pattern...waiting to hear. I did ask my AC when the next SSG classes were projected, and she told me that she really didn't know. She was going to call the SSG group coordinator and get back to me. However, I HOPE that the next class is scheduled for sometime in July/August...And I REALLY hope that those of us in the running make the cut. I've got a feeling that we might be finding out pretty soon. Good luck everyone...And keep the up-dates coming! :)

I have been give two different dates by people at the HQs. One says classes would start on 07-03-05 and the other says 07-04-05. So it appears no one really knows the date.

It'll likely be reporting on 7/3 with the training starting 7/4.
And yup, training will be on 7/4...but people will receive holiday pay for working that day. They had to do that to get 2 classes in by the end of FY05.

I heard that you get your SSG FO assignment when you get the final offer packet. My question is, do you get a list of FOs to select from or do they just select for you?
GM

Recently, they've just selected it for you. From time to time, they'll let you pick from 2 or 3, but that seems to not be the case for now.
The thing to remember is SSG is small compared to SAs and has very specific staffing needs. Many offices have less than 12 SSG members...so the likelihood of them having an opening is fairly low. It's purely a numbers game, and there's nothing HQ can do about who's full and who's not.

I have completed all the SSG hiring process: BI, PSI, Poly, Drug test, Credit check, Finger print and medical. Not long ago, I called the HQs to know the status of my file and was told my file is in adjudication. Could someone tell me what that means in referrence to the SSG hiring, how long it takes to complete the process or receive a final offer once adjudicated. Your insights would be greatly appreciated.
GM
So it seems like you and I are in the same boat, Goodmails. I also recently completed all the stages of the SSG hiring process and am currently in a holding pattern...just waiting to hear something (hopefully SOON). However, I noticed that you called HQ to find out the status of your application, which I didn't realize we could do. Is there a specific person or office that you might be able to direct me to so I can call also? If so, feel free to post it here or PM me. I'm excited and nervous to know the status of my application. Sorry that I can't give you an answer as to what it means for your application to be in "adjudication." Hopefully that just means that you are in the final review before a decision is made, but I'm not sure. GOOD LUCK!

There's no set time for adjudication...when they finalize a class date and are ready to add people to the class, they go through their finalized files (those in adjudication) and select the class members. Totally arbitrary, and nothing you or your AC can really do to rush it.
They usually don't setup members for classes until 2-3 weeks prior to class start, so it's another week or two before anyone may hear for the next class.
Just wondering from those of you who have been lucky enough to be hired by the FBI...How do they notify you that you've been selected? Is it via phone call or mail? And if it's a phone call, who called you? Was it your AC? Someone from the Field Office that you were assigned to? HQ? Maybe it's all wishful thinking on my part, but I have to do SOMETHING while I'm waiting! :D Thanks for any feedback!

Finished up the PSI, poly and physical yesterday. What an experience. Did anyone leave the poly and feel like they were a midget compared to a spec of dirt? I feel awful about the entire process. Almost to the point where I might have failed the test. Is this a tactic used in the examination? What are the chances I passed? I guess Ill have to wait and see. Oh the pain.
Also I was told to lose 10lbs by the Doc. Anyone know if this could hurt my chances?

HQ makes the call usually, and it is a call. There are various people at HQ who take care of it, so a name isn't forthcoming. :) You'll likely hear from your FO later on, most often during training, but it depends on the FO...some of the bigger ones, you may not hear anything until you report.
Probably no problem on the poundage...as long as you're in "good health", there are no weight limits. That was likely just that doctor speaking his professional opinion.
I left with a terrible uncertainty after the poly. I think it is a tactic. It wasnt until like 3 weeks later the admin lady asks me some info about my background. So asked her and shes like "I think you passed." You think? lol. Anyway so far so good I guess. No "thin" envelope yet...

Just out of curiosity how did you get the word? Were they scheduling you for a medical examination?

I had my physical about 45 min after the poly.
I took the poly last Tuesday (5/31) and I got the word today (8 days). I called to update some info and asked then. She pulled it up on a computer and said "yup, congrats you passed."
Congrats Scraggler! And good luck on the rest of the process (which now is mostly WAITING!!!)!
Ok, so here's a question about the BI: Is there usually ONE person who acts as the principle investigator for the BI of an applicant? The reason I am asking is beacuse I see posts here all the time where people mention contacting their Background Investigator. As it stands, my BI has been well underway for some time. I was contacted about a month ago by an agent (retired) who asked me to set her up for an interview with my current employer, but she made no mention of being "in charge" of my BI. I know this same individual also interviewed several of my neighbors, aquaintences and previous landlords. However, given that I have lived in various cities over the years, I know that several investigators have been involved in my process. For instance, at least 2 different investigators have interviewed my colleagues, friends and neighbors: one investigator here in NJ and another in NYC. Also, an investigator from the San Diego field office met with my father in person, and one from Chicago interviewed a few former colleagues there.
What this all boils down to is that I have completed every other step in the application process and was told by HQ that they are just waiting for the results of my BI to see if they can put me into one of the up-coming classes (July or August). Needless to say I am anxious as hell and wondering if I should call to see the status of my BI. Should I contact the individual who called me about interviewing my surrent employer? Should I call the recruiting office in HQ? Should I learn some patience and just keep my nose out of it? Awww....CRAP! I think I am suffering from a serious case of the hurry up and wait blues! ;)
JCMC219,
Don't know for sure, but I'd think the BI out of the closest FO is the primary.
If it appeared your BI was moving along with speed and then all of a sudden hit a lull, I wouldn't hesitate to call him.
The primary on my BI has been very matter-of-fact in calling me up for phone numbers, confirming names and getting names of others to interview. After calling me four or five times in the span of of a couple of hours one day, he acknowledged he was on deadline. I figured that was a good thing.
That said, a call from you to make sure that they have everything they need and aren't waiting for a contact to finally call back - don't see in any harm in it.
Kennedy
Congrats Scraggler! And good luck on the rest of the process (which now is mostly WAITING!!!)!
Yeah, Scraggler, many CONGRATS!
I too came out of the poly feeling like trash. Nothing like having your integrity and character questioned, huh?
A necessary evil? Yes. A confidence builder? Not really.
Anyone else have an update?
I know Goodmails received the call for the July 4th class.
If not how many people are in the holding pattern like me?
I finished up the Medical a little over a month ago.
Sounds like we're in the same holding pattern, Balz. I had my medical 5 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything.
I was told that I would get a call from the background unit once the BI was complete but it's about two months since it started and it seems that everyone listed was contacted the first week or two of the BI. I haven't seen anyone post that they have received such a phone call, though, so maybe this isn't the case?
I'm trying to be patient but it's a little nerve racking not knowing whether today is the day you'll get either a phone call or the "thin envelope" in the mail.

Tex and Balz I too am in the process...finished my medical exactly 15 days ago. Everyday I anxiously await a phone call and get nervous everytime I go to get the mail. Anyway, I guess the only thing we can do is wait. Hopefully I will see you guys in class.

same thing here, medical finished two months ago, it seemed everyone in my Bi was contacted last month. Just waiting around for anything sucks...
So here's the latest up-date...
I arrived home this evening to find an envelope from the Bureau in my mailbox. I was scared to death to open it because I hadn't received any phone calls saying "Welcome to the FBI!", nor was it substantial enough to be an employee handbook :D I was SURE it was the dreaded "thin" letter. As it turns out, it was a notice from my local field office saying that follow-up was needed on several areas of my medical exam. Given what they asked me to follow-up on leads me to believe that they did not receive a few important documents from my doctors. In any case, I am pretty sure I'll be able to take care of all of the items on the follow-up list fairly quickly. I'm hoping that if I get the info in soon that I will be considered for the August class.
Has anyone else had to do follow-up on the medical like this and still made it in? I'm praying that the Bureau doesn't look upon me as being less than among the top qualified candidates just because of a few simple medical follow-ups.
Good luck to those of you selected for July!

I did not have a medical follow up in my own case. I would think that the letter from the Bur was a good news in a way. At least, you are no longer in the dark. You now know where you are at in the process. I would suggest that you take the docs to your doctor and get the process started as quickly as possible. You would be in August class depending on the nature of your follow up. Good luck JCMC.
GM
I had a follow up, regarding getting another blood test. But the clinic called me directly and arranged for a local clinic to do it for me. The FBI never called or sent any mail. Anyway, it was done and the clinic sent me a very nice and thorough medical evaluation. So if anything I know I am healthy :)

Way to put a positive spin on it Huckrot! Seriously, it is a consolation to know that I am pretty damn healthy too! The funny thing is that I work in the medical profession...surrounded by doctors and nurses every day, and yet I have been personally prodded and poked (get your minds outta the gutter) more so in the past two months than in all my life! Medical follow-ups be damned! lol
GM, you're right about me feeling a bit relieved that I know where I stand in the process. I spoke to my AC today to clarify one question that I had, and she told me that the Analyst in HQ mentioned that they are shooting to get me into the August class (pending the outcome of the medical follow-up). Her generally positive tone made me cautiously optimistic. As for you, I'll bet you're totally psyched about being in the July class! I think that I wouldn't be able to sleep if I were in your shoes right now...just too much excitement! Good luck to you with all that!
Damn, I want it so badly now that I am starting to sound like a kid in a candy store. I just hope that I don't get stuck eating a sour ball in the end! lol
