Ok so I'm just another LEO wanna be, but hey is there anything wrong with being in a hurry to be a cop? I've waited my whole life just for the chance! So I turn in all my forms and I get "officer so-in-so will return your call regarding your orientation" :P
Needless to say ....NO call! Its been a month now and I have inquired 3 additional times as to the status of my file. Same line everytime. Yeah I could apply at some suburb PD but Detroit is where I really wanna work (lol yes I've lost my mind). Anyone familar with Detroit PD? HELP WHAT NOW????:crying2:

Dawn,
RELAX, take a deep breath and be prepared to wait it out. It takes quiet awhile to get through the hiring process. Give them time, your packet is not the only one that they have to process.
What part of the process are you in? I know that it is hard waiting but the patience will pay off in the end. Unless they said to call and check to see if they got your packet, don't call and give them some time.
You're going to learn real fast that applying is one of those, "hurry up and wait" kind of situations. You'll also frequently hear the phrase, "No news is good news" if everything is going good. A month is nothing compared to applicants in the federal process who have literally waited years to get their foot in the door. I’m sure they have a lot more applicants to process than just you and calling them over three times just to check your application status may be a bit too persistent. You’re definitely going to have to learn to be a lot more patient or this whole testing process is going to tear you apart. Just wait until you to wait several months just to hear how you did on your oral board, or even longer just to get that final word of approval.
Good luck!

Don't dispare it will all come in good time.
Best of luck to you,

um hehe... all I have taken so far is the MCOLES written and physical test. They don't have much to process in other words. All it was is to be set up for an orientation that explains the rest of the process to you. I haven't even had the chance to fill out an application yet because of this. *sigh* I know I am trying not to be over anxious.

If all you've accomplished is the written test and physical portion, you're not even in the ballpark yet! If you've not even completed an application, you're not even under consideration. It doesn't do any good to call, they don't have any record of you besides the test scores! Provided you've scored high enough to deserve consideration, you may be offered an opportunity to complete an application and then and only then will the process begin! I'd consider making application to other agencies if you're interested in a LE career. Hanging around for something that may never happen isn't good for you.
Have a great day!

Dawn,
I applied to the DPD just before I got out of the military in 1996. It was a mountain of paperwork unlike I had ever seen at the time or since, and they promptly lost it. Another job I had applied for at the same time came through so I took that rather than deal with the DPD. I'm glad I did.
Why do you want to work there so bad? The lack of support they seem to give their officers when things get a little bit rough, i.e. political, is enough to make me glad I didn't pursue a job there. You might want to think about that. Or at least stop putting all of your eggs in one basket and apply to as many Detroit metro. PD's as you can. If somebody else offers you a job and later on the DPD decides to hire you, then take it, if that's what you really want. For all of us there's at least one job out there we would really want. If we all only focused on getting that one job, in that one location, the success rate would be very, very low. Good luck.

Dawn,
I concur with the above posts. You could be holding your breath for a very long time. Like posted above, you have only taken the initial testing to see if they are even going to consider you to proceed in "The Process". There are alot of othe departments out there that are hiring. I would suggest getting your app into more agencies. That will also help you to stop stressing about just one department and give you something else to look forward to. Even when you do get into the process you must be prepared to "hurry up and wait". That is just the name of the game. Good luck to you!

Thank you everyone who has responded! ;) By now I'm sure you think I'm nuts LOL. DPD called today to set up dates for a pre-oral (what the heck is that anyway?) and background review, so yes I am bouncing off the walls.
I'm not sure what I think of DPD as opposed to other PDs. Yes, Detroit gets a bad rap but then again thats not only with police. Its Detroit! Hehe :dah:
Figured I'd work on that street degree in the worst place I could find (not sure about the logic in this... but y'all can say you told me so later).
