I got the call from Phoenix PD and I'm hired. My academy tenatively starts the beginning of Oct. I can't wait to get started. I am a little worried about the PT portion though. At 39 keeping up with the younger guys and gals is going to be a challenge. I've been running every day to try and get ready. Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. I appreciate all the help and hints I've received on this board they have really served to encourage me. Thanks.

Congrats on your success. Continue to work out as often as you can, but don't worry about keeping up with the younger crowd. Your goal should be to exceed the academy PT standards. Concetrate on cardio and upper body strength. If you do this, then I guarentee there will be younger members of your class choking on your dust. Stay safe and good luck.
Congratulations and go get 'em ! You will do great. Follow Tampa's advice. Also, do not neglect stretching, as you will want to avoid any injuries during PT/DT. Stretch lightly, don't bounce. Stretch gently prior to physical activity and then again more extensively afterwards. The muscles stretch more easily while warmed up from physical activity. Also be sure to condition your abs; and stretch your lower back
Best of Luck and let us know how things are going !

Congrats to you and the best of luck in the academy! As far as PT goes, just keep working on the areas of concern on your own until you start. The only way to improve that specific area is to work on that area. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I'm running anywhere from 2-3 miles a day and doing a pretty good weight workout, followed by 15-20 on a stairstepper. So far so good. I've got to take a week off to move from NM to AZ but I'm pretty consistent in my workouts. It will be more interesting once the academy starts and I see how the first week goes. It's been a long time since Basic training. It will be a good chance to see how much I remember. Thanks again.
