Question for people who know correct responses to "situational circumstances" regarding B-PAD. I would like to ask for all of you to respond to any of the following situations I present, especially the individuals on the job now. For those who are not familiar with B-PAD I will explain how it works. I took the B-PAD in Las Vegas last January and now I will be taking it with a local Department in Florida next week.......I am in the Academy now, but very few of my intructers are familiar with this phase of the hiring process. So now maybe I can gather all your advice and use it next week, hopefully others will benefit as well.

B-PAD is a video enhancement. They put you in a room by yourself in front of a TV monitor, and recording device to tape you while you do your thing. They give you 8 scenerios of ' role playing (you being the actual cop on TV).....The scenerio plays out and then the TV pauses and you then have 45 seconds to address the problem in hand, you dont need to use the full 45 and the people on the screen obviously do not talk back to you... while you address all 8 scenerio's, you are being recorded for further grading. It must be noted that you are sitting not standing told that you are only being viewed head and shoulders, not drawing of weapons, no cursing, no physical response allowed. Here were a few from the Vegas testing...

Scenerio #1
You have just returned to the City hall office from working the street. Upon your arrival, there is a Mother and her 10 year old kid. They are raising there voices while the kid is cursing at his mother F...you...you hrrrr.....btch...etc.... The mom looks at you and sais.. "Can you please help me, this is what I deal with everyday and night, he doesnt listen to me, he throws things and breaks things daily, he busts out windows and there is no managing this kid". (camera freezes...your response)

Scenerio# 2
Your driving down a highway, 12,13 or 14 year old boy flags you down...... you pull over, get out and the boy ask you for help. Your reply is obviously yes, and then the boy proceeds to tell you " I was kidnapped by this guy in a van, he made me do sexual things and then dropped me off here, can you help me?"...(camera freezes, your response)

Scenerio #3
You have been dispatched to ms. Rodriguez's residence to inform her that her daughter was hit by a vehicle at school, the accident was fatal and you need to tell her mother...(camera Freezes, your response) Do you offer her a ride anywhere is my question?

Scenerio #4
You and your partner are dispatched to a domestic w/ a firearm present. You pull up, your partner tells you he's going to the back of the house you are heading to the front, man comes out of the residence with firearm (9mm) in right hand, hes not pointing it, its at his side...doesnt say anything just looks at you for a while(camera freezes,Your response)

Scenerio#5
You get called to a domestic, you do not have a partner, nor does one show up...they still have you entering by yourself, the husban and wife are going at her hard(mid 40's), you walk in they stop and start blaming one another of course throwing F'bombs at each other, this and that....(camera frezzes, your response)

I am real curious how some of you would respond to these scenerios, whether you being a 1 year man/woman, 5-10 and 20 year vet(Roscoe). I thank you all in advance for your insight, maybe have a little fun at it as well. If someone else has scenerios they have experienced, please add a thread, every little bit helps..

Thanks again 'Sota:p

The person who will review your responses understands that you will not know how to exactly handle every circumstance. (And theres a million different ways to solve an incident.) They will be looking for your thought process. Are you making a decision quickly and are your actions done with confidence. Don't look into solving the entire situation in 45 sec.

When I took mine I quickly asked a question or gave a command and was finished. The most I probably took was 20 sec. You'll feel funny just standing there with the person on the screen staring back at you but don't feel like you need to talk for 45 sec.

Good luck!
