Well, I recieved a call today to schedule my poly. It is on the 29th. Nervous but very anxious and greatful to have this opportunity.
My question is, What did you wear for your polygraph?
Next question:
Are polys usually done prior to or after a BI is conducted. Being as It's only been 4 days since my interview and my present employer has not been called from the department I am in the process with, I would imagine my BI will be done after the poly. I was under the impression it would be the other way around. Again, thanks for your replies.
For the poly's that I have gone to I have worn a coat and tie. Most everybody else also had a coat and tie. It just shows proffesionalism.
Good luck.

I agree with MJ-1, treat this as a job interview.
Best of luck,

I have also worn coat and tie and all the polys I have taken have been pre-BI. Good Luck.

After you are hooked up to everything, you will wish you wore a bathing suit.

When I took my poly for LAPD they did it before the B.I., the background investigator then receives a report of the findings. I think they do this in hopes of uncovering some things you did not disclose in your background. I was clean so it was no worries, just stick to your guns.

I wore business casual. I know the agents in the office wear the same on a daily basis and plus I was told to dress comfortably. In the absence of having that info. prior to taking my poly I would have worn a suit. If your shirt fits right, i.e. not too tight around the neck with a tie, it shouldn't be a problem. You definitely want to balance a professional look with comfort as much as possible.
As far as when agencies give the poly (before or after the BI) it really all depends. There are pros and cons to both. Good luck.
I am processing with NYSP right now and the poly is the second to last thing you do. They use it to verify everything you've told the BI. Also the BI said he tells the Poly guy what area/area you are weak in and he has the poly guys attack you in them areas.

Hey Dan!
Happy to hear about the poly! Who is it with?
Definitely treat it as a job interview, but also make sure that you are comfortable. Also, if you wear a jacket, be prepared to take it off. I wore a pants suit to mine, didn't think much of the shirt I was wearing underneath since I had a suit jacket to cover it up. Until I had to remove it for the poly and I found myself sitting in a cold room in a small, white tank top in front of my male polygrapher...talk about embarassment!
My poly was done before my BI, but I had to sign a waiver saying that I would undergo a second one if they wanted to run it after my BI was completed. Which btw, they finally started!
Anyway, you wil do fine. Remember to stay calm and clear your mind after each question. Don't let it wander.
Good luck!
Dan, congats on the oral board and good luck on your poly. Just try to stay calm and you'll do fine. You're almost there and I'm thinking this might be the one!
Definitely go with the professional business attire, shirt and tie.
I've always had my poly after my b.i. I guess this was their way to verify everything on my PHF and background interview. But after reading a few posts, It's more dept preference than anything else.
Good luck!
My poly was after my BI and the investigator told me to dress comfortably, no jacket and tie. I wore a polo shirt and a nice pair of pants. You'll want to be comfortable.
Good luck!

Dan - you will be taking your poly up North at Perry Township with the Chief up there -he's not even with the County - just relax when you get there. Wear khaki's and a polo shirt (standard military/cop casual gear). You should know soon if you get hired, the class they're hiring for starts in about a month.

Ridgeback, check your PM's

I am going to go ahead and go with the suit. I am not that uncomfortable in a suit anyways. Better to over dress than under dress for the occasion. I will keep you all posted. Be safe.
