if you are a member of a state trooper ert or swat team, what exactly do you do? do you ever go on call and things like that. basically, how does a member of a swat team at the state level differ from the municipal level.....better equitment, training, oppertunities?
I'm not a State Trooper, but I have seen a few call-outs for the PSP SERT team in my local area. I also have an aquaintance who is on their team.
As for equipment, they seem to have the same equipment as municipal teams in this area, they just have more of it (bigger agency = bigger team).
Since PSP patrols the areas that do not have their own departments, they function as a municipal team would. I have also seen them called out to assist with the local PD's sometimes, and even saw them on a call out for a federal warrant service with the FBI.

In Missouri, members that are on the swat team are also regular road troopers. They perform the duties of a trooper, but when called upon, are activated to the SERT team. All members carry pagers, and are on call 24 hours a day. We have 4 teams throughout the state, and they can be called to assist local or fedaral agencies. They have very good equipment and top notch training.
The MSP ( Mass State Police) have STOP teams, they are on potral but also carry there gear with them and are 24 hr call out. Top of the line gear ( one of only three of the new Sig sniper rifles in the U.S) good training and they also teach at the acd. I may be off on this but I don't think all State police agency's have SWAT teams.
