Hey everyone, I was just curious about something that maybe you can help me with. Is living with your girlfriend when your not married looked down upon to a BI investigator. I was just wondering. It is so common out there but it is also a felony in the state of MI which is not enforced obviously. Just wondering if you guys could answer this for me. Thanks for any responses. Be safe out there. jeeesh, i guess i'm a criminal then. i have lived with my gf for the past 2 years now. i would imagine that if michigan lists this in the books as a big no-no, then your BI would too.....

Well if I go out to MI I guess that I would be dragged out into the street and shot. You can look on the web and find a lot of laws that are old and non-enforceable. I do not think that the B/Investigator would look down upon you for this. Take care and be safe.

I don't see why it would be looked down upon. It's pretty common nowadays.

A little different take on this issue. Although I have no problem with it, and have done it, there are BI's, or organizations that would have a problem with it.

When you become a Trooper in Missouri, you can be shipped anywhere in the state, from major cities, like St. Louis or Kansas City, to counties where the largest town has a population of 800. When a Trooper moves into one of these very rural areas, they are the center of conversation, usually one of the higher paid citizens of the county, and are often held to a higher standard than your average Joe. People know more about you than your mother. Most of these small rural areas have a large elderly population, and you can guess what most older people think about two un-married people shacking up. They think it is one of the 5 worst sins. This in turn would make the Trooper look bad, and, according to the higher-ups, the organization look bad.

So, in answer to your question, it all depends on what agency you are applying to, and the thought process of the brass in those organizations.

By the way, I was told coming out of the academy, as have many others, that they were not allowed to share a residence with a female until they were married. Outdated, yes, but you gotta listen if you want to keep your job.
