In April, I interviewed for and received a conditional offer for a Surveillance Specialist position. Last week my BI contacted me and indicated that he was starting my background investigation. Today I received a letter from the FBI rescinding my COE. The letter stated that the FBI has more applicants in their background pool than positions and therefore, my processing was being discontinued. Does anyone have any information about this? Specifically, how did they determine which offers they were rescinding? Could it be related to background information? Is there any way to get more information from the FBI?

I am seriously bummed out as I have been wanting to work for the FBI for a long time now. Too old to be a SA, so I thought this would be a great way to contribute. Thanks.

How could they say that when they are currently taking applications for the same position. Call the HQs to know what's going on.

I would just call my BI. I think that in certain situations you might be able to appeal - perhaps if you can show you are more competitive than before.
Best wishes

That being the case, it can't have been because of anything developed in your BI. Did you apply for SSG (investigative specialist) or Surveillance Specialist, they're 2 different things.

It sounds like better qualified applicants knocked you out of the running. It can't hurt to call HQ or the contact person on the announcement and ask. If that's the case, you should be able to apply to other announcements without prejudice. Good luck.
