View Full Version : dream car
I'm just curious what some of you think of as your dream car. I'm a huge car buff, and have decided to make an effort to purchase my dream car in the next couple of months. I'm looking for a 1987 Buick Grand National. My dad had one when I was in high school and I absolutely loved it. It was the fastest production car made that year. A stock GN will do a quarter mile in the low 13 second range, with a little work it's not to hard to get that down to 11.5 to 12 seconds which will blow the doors off most cars out there today. They only made 5000 of them so if anybody knows of one for sell in your area I would appreciate a PM letting me know.

I've never been a car buff. And for some reason I've never been into any sports cars like Jaguars, Lambourghini's (sp?) etc... So I guess my "dream car" fits into the category of > since I have a family I'm always looking into the family cars... Right now I'm looking at the Hyundai Santa Fe (SUV). Built on a Sonata frame which means it's low to the ground and also it's nice V6 engine and plenty of cargo space. I also like the Bonnevilles they have now. Too expensive though. But I could settle on a fully loaded Grand Prix... :D Still too expensive.. :( So the Sante Fe it will be... And just for the record...Minivans are evil!!

I like asking people the question, "If money were no object, but you could only buy one vehicle, what would it be?" It reminds me a little of my Theories of Counseling and Psychotherapy class in college! :)
Anyhow, to answer my own question, it would definitely be a BMW M5 with the Sport interior, and nearly every option. Then again, I'm going into law enforcement and will probably never see a BMW in my own garage. Oh well... the sacrifices we make for a career we love.
Anyhow, my practical vehicle will be a 2002 Toyota Tundra SR5, 4x4 extended cab. I would put a brush guard, fiberglass bed cover, bed liner on it. It is a truck so I could handle just about any task, yet it still gets relatively good gas mileage for V8 (a friend has one and is getting about 22mpg on the highway with it -- with the bed cover). It will also last a long, long time.
For a practical car, I would have to say the 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5SE, with lots 'o options. I'm also a Honda fan, but Honda has to play catch-up with the new Altima.
Later,
Steve
If I won the lottery, I'd buy a 2001 CV. You laugh, but TRUST ME, if I won the lottery, there wouldn't be ANYTHING to laugh at with this CV :-D I'm the type of guy that LOVES sleeper's.
But I've alway's been a sucker for a Porsche 911 Carrera. And I use to like the Viper's better than the Vett's, but with the new LS6 engine, The Viper and Vett are in a close second in my book.
But after I wake up and relize I've going to have a cop's salary to contend with, I'm thinkin about a '01 Black Mustang GT.

bigz,
Back in 87 a friend of mine had a Buick GN. Man, to say that thing flew is an understatement. Nice ride.
If money is not object I'm getting something with a Porsche nameplate on it. But money is an object so a Mustang Cobra (mid to late 90's) would do nicely.

I forgot to list my "old car" selection. Now, since I'm going to be the big PowerBall winner (yeah, right!), I would definitely get a 1964.5 Mustang Convertible... cherry red, white ragtop. I would also want an old Thunderbird convertible, too. Oh, and a '67 Camero SS, and any old El Camino SS... and the list goes on and on...

I went after a new 911 Turbo the other day. He was blasting through a yellow light about 10 over. I caught him about a mile later only because he was nice enough to slow when I hit the reds. I had a blast so I only gave him a warning! Really nice car though.
I just bought it less than 3 weeks ago - a 2001 Ford F-250 Lariat, 4x4, supercab (leather, CD, etc.) and a 7.3 liter Powerstroke Turbo Diesel - my wife is mad because I spend more time with it than with her!

Your dream CAR is a truck!?!?!?!? OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!!! That seems like an awful lot of vehicle for a guy that gets a G-ride. Got some trees you need to pull out of the ground or houses you need to pull to another location or something? You can rent trucks for that stuff you know.

I may seem like yuppie scum for saying this but I really like the new BMW m3 with its 333hp engine and nice options/accessories. Too bad it comes with a hefty 50k pricetag..
I'm a big fan of "euro" quasi luxury cars :) the Audis are fantastic too..especially the A4 or S4 series. All very nice and wouldn't mind owning either.
As far as outrageous luxury/sports cars go it would be really nice to own a ferrari F360 spyder. That thing is HOT but i'll never ever own one in my lifetime.
I'm still looking for the 87 Grand National. I found one that is decent, but the paint is really bad. I don't have a problem with that, but I'm not sure I want to pay what the guy is asking. I might make him a lowball offer and see if he takes it.
I should have started this thread dream car a cop can afford. I would love to have a Buick GNX which is the limited edition of the Grand National. They only made a little over 500 of those so they are very expensive and collectible.
If money wasn't an object I think a Dodge Viper and a Hummer would be in my collection as well. I drive a Toyota truck, but just have a thing for American Muscle Cars.

All this while blasting:

1967 Chevelle SS396 is my dream..
Right now I'm settling for the 1956 Chevy 210 that I bought cheap and am working on resoring to "near-New" shape (I won't be enetering any shows with it...I just want whats under the hood to be tip-top)
And I like Customs Cop idea, too...Count me in as a fellow parrothead...
Since I started this thread I thought those of you who responded might be interested in seeing a picture of my "dream car". It's a 1986 Buick Grand National with a bunch of mods including a bigger turbo, stretched intercooler, alcohol injection kit, 3" downpipe, 3500 stall torque converter etc. I haven't taken it to the track yet due to winter, but I think with good tires it will run in the mid to low 12's at altitude. This car has been a blast, but like most older cars it's also a money pit. I can't wait for summer so I can take the t-tops off and go dust some Mustangs.

bigz, if you are looking to buy a GN, there was a guy posting one for sale (in Ohio though) here: http://web.camaross.com/bb/Forum6/HTML/047300.html
Also, a guy I know (in Maryland) is selling his '87 GN. Don't remember what all he had done to it, but I believe it ran 11.70 @ 119. http://www.easternfbody.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=9&t=000046
I'm currently driving my dream car, a '95 Z28:
