Does anyone have any info about what is covered on the written test? Is it a T.A.B.E test, with a mathematics and vocabulary emphasis? Or is it on some other format?
The test is not at all hard with the first part being a lot of basic common sense questions, map reading and the last part a memorization test. They give you 20 min to look over statutes, pictures then you answers questions on them. I think all you need is a 70. The hard part is the cbtt physical agility.
cbtt physical agility
What does that entail?

Gar,
It is a 1/4(?) mile broken up into 11, 40 yard dashes with opticals in each sprint. This is how it goes.
Start- run 40yrds come back 40yrds and jump 5'6" wall-up 40yards and back 40yards and broad jump 4 feet- up 40 yards come back 40 yards and go up 6 steep steps and back down 6 steps - up 40 yards and back 40 yards pick up 150 lbs dummy and drag backwards 50 feet. drop dummy and turn around and finish 40 yards- come back 40 and go up 40 and dry fire service weapon 10 times in each hand in under 2 minutesin under 2 minutes.
I think thats 11 40 yard dashes. Its very difficult if your not in shape and think that you are. It is also not impossible as long as you think you can do it. Trust me my weight is 160 lbs. and probably one of the smallest guys there in my time slot, and I know for a fact that they next day when only 13 people showed up for the oral board, I was the smallest one who passed it at that time. I am not bragging don't think i am just trying to encourage everyone to apply give it your best shot. you will never know unless you try.

I'm only 140lbs. It took me 2:11. No interview, but compared to alot of people there that were twice my size I felt pretty good about it. However, you can only feel so good when you have driven alway to Frankfort from VA and you don't even get an interview. It is an extrememly difficult physical. All KY troopers are required to do it yearly, but they get an extended time to do so. I suggest two things for preparation. Number one, practice running 1/4 mile as fast as possible. Number two, practice 150lbs weight pull for fifty feet (with both hands).

Hillbilly is right. I did the physical and passed. Being a runner, discharged from the Marines 2 years ago... it winded me very heavily. I did it in 1:59. Talk about a close call. If you read "Shot Down By KY State Police", you'll get to hear it all from me. I washed on the oral, but I'm determined to come through in June of 2002.
