The dept I applied with sends a BI to the applicant's house before starting in on his file. Is this common in other places? Just curious. Also, what exactly are they looking to do by making this house call? Do they just want to meet and greet and go over your file in order to put a name with the face before they dig in, or are they looking for anything else? What exactly happens at these face to face meetings?
I guess I'm still alive. I freaked out after the polygraoh (some of you may remember the "Stick a fork in me" thread a few weeks ago. This is a good sign. I hope.

There was some discussion about this topic earlier, you may be able to search for that post.
This is commonplace for background investigations. They may talk to your wife, your kids, or your neighbors. They'll look to see how you keep your house, and your general manners while being interviewed (I've heard of people answering the phone and carrying on a conversation with the BI waiting on the couch). By interviewing you in your environment, a BI can get a better sense of your true personality.

Mo Trooper:
Did a search and found the thread you mentioned. Much thanks for the response and the tips.:)
It just depends on the department. My dad new an officer that use to work at the local PD that went to work for the Houston PD. Those guy's came down and went to *ALL* of his previous residence's and talked to all of the neighbor's. I also believe they went and talked to every employer he's worked for since he was 16. But I can't remeber.

GFV,
Glad to hear you are still alive and kicking. I've been following some of your posts, as I am applying to pd's in the Norfolk area. I'm headed to Norfolk this weekend for the written test and b-pad. Good luck and keep updating as you move through the screening process.
