I'm going to go out on limb and assume everyone here uses EMD at their agency. If not I'd like to here why not. But anyway, does your agency have a board of supervisors/Medics/whomever that you use for quality assurance on calls utilizing EMD?

Nope, not our dept. We the Police dispatchers handle all incoming 911 calls, and send medical calls over to the fire dept. Now they are firemen (medics or emts) dispatching so if they feel the need to give pmi over the phone they do, but only if the caller is wanting some help. Over the last year, I have maybe heard one call that I sent over to them that they did pre arrival.

Makes sense. We take the calls and dispatch for them. We don't have police and fire seperate. But if you transfer the call to the fire department how do you know where to send them? And if you've already gathered the information from the caller why are you transferring the call to the fire department? Shouldn't they be en route to the call by then? I just find it...not weird, but very different that Firemen and EMT's are handling 911 calls.

We take all incoming 911 calls, landline and cellular(and oh what a pain that is) and then determine the nature. PD, Fire, Medics..we do just police, fire and aid go to another agency. The only thing we do if it's fire and aid is if it's a cell phone, have to confirm the address, so we can send them to the right agency, and in case we lost the caller in the transfer, can give it to the other agency.

If the caller asks for medics/fire right off the bat, all I say is one sec, and connect them(free of charge might I add!). But for the medical/fire call, I ask no, and take no information. I does turn out more often then not, PD also needs to go, and I'll listen in to the call, but I never say anything, unless I need to jump in for some reason. It's nice in my position, for some of the medical calls, I don't have to do anything but I can still listen in...Like I witnessed a baby born the other nice that was really neat...and if it gets to nasty, I can just drop off. OF COURSE (if anyone from my department is reading this) I will immedately drop off if we have other 911 calls coming in.

We have about 7 fire and aid agencies we have to deal with all the time, so it does get a little confusing to tell which one it should go to, and needless to say, it doesn't always follow city/county jurisdictions. Of Course!

we handle our Fire & Ems about the same way as DispNowCopL8r
If they say medical or fire, we send it to fire they ask what we want and if they need us they call us. If I pick up the phone 9-1-1 what is your emergency and they start in on how there husband has chest pain, I kindly stop them and say maam let me transfer you to the Medics, plz dont hang up.
