Hello all,
I have been reading your postings for the last week. I came to this site because I am going through the hiring process. I just had the poly and I am waiting for the board to decide if I get to move on to the next step and take the psych test. Can someone give me some insight on what to expect?
You are usually given an MMPI-2, which is the most common true/false psych profiling test test given. It's a battery of 500 or so true false questions. From this they can measure a variety of personality traits.
It is most effective at reading lies. They give the same question worded differently throughout the test. Answer them inconsistently and this sends up flags.
Just answer everything honestly and you should be fine. Dont try to look like you're an angel and do no wrong (a common mistake by candidates). They will figure that one out.
After the test most Depts have an oral psych. Here the shrink will go over the test and interview you. Be warned that it is common for these shrinks to try to anger you or make you feel uncomfortable. This is an oft used tactic to get you to fall off balance or lose your temper. Just remember everything happening in a shrink interview is part of the program. Keep your cool, be honest and you will be fine.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate it.
This whole process has been interesting. This is the 3rd department I have applied to and I have not found anything consistent in the hiring practice with any of them. The waiting game is the hardest to play. Anyway, thanks again.:talk:
