Anyone else apply for these 6 spots at Quantico? The announcement just closed Friday the 17th and my profile on the FBI Jobs website says that I've been referred to the selecting official. (I know, I know - start holding my breath now... :D )

Also, if anyone else has some insight on the position that would be great. I've done some homework so far on the 'net, but I'm always looking for more.

Those 6 jobs are in CIRG (Critical Incidence Response Group), and located right off I-95 in Stafford, Virginia. (very close to Quantico) This area is a lot cheaper to live in than most of Northern Virginia, so if you are lucky enough to land one of these spots than you would be in great shape trying to find a place in the Stafford/Fredericksburg area.

The "Crime Analyst" position is specific to CIRG and the NCAVC. These positions are in the ViCAP program, Violent Criminal Apprehension Program. They are in the job series 0301 (Misc. Admin & Program), kind of a catch-all series in the federal government. The Crime Analyst position is basically CIRG's version of an Intel Analyst, in a way at least. It goes to a GS-13, and I have heard from current Crime Analysts that it is fairly easy to advance to the 13 level, (easier than an IA moving up to a 13).

Good luck Belair.

Thanks for the info eff-bee-eye! I did a little homework about housing and you're right, Fredericksburg seems much more reasonable than anywhere north. If you (or anyone else) wouldn't mind PM'ing me, I'd like to know a little bit more about that area (crimewise, standards of living, etc.).

Thanks again!

did anyone else see that this position says CANCELLED in the job listing, but in my job status, it still says application received...and from what i've heard, they really needed these positions...

No, they closed the previous vacancy for multiple positions, and this recent one was a new vacancy for ONE position, and then they cancelled it. The previous positions are still being reviewed.

that's weird, there were 6 openings in the previous one right? i'm relieved they haven't cancelled it....

Yeah 6 sounds about right. It's a good job, especially if you are more interested in the Criminal side of the house. Not to mention it is easier to get your 13 as a Crime Analyst then if you were an Intel Analyst.

I talked to HR last week and she said "they're still reviewing applications and making selections". There's 6 vacancies, and she couldn't tell me if one or any have even been filled yet. Still hanging in there....

Did you leave a message? The HR woman was really good about calling me back when I left a message and she was helpful to talk to. Give it a shot if not. If you get more info than I did, share it here. Good luck!

Hmm, that's interesting. I have not heard of similar positions outside the FBI. Where are you a Crime Analyst now? PM me if you want.

BelAir1, nope, I'll try again on Monday though...

eff-bee-eye, there are tons of crime analysts across the nation, check out http://www.iaca.net on our profession.

Not much to report. It's the rapidly growing southern edge of the DC metro area. Lots of folks who work down at the FBI Laboratory and Academy, in addition to CIRG, live south of Quantico - anywhere from Garrisonville/Aquia down to Fredricksburg. Judging by the traffic in the mornings, so do a lot of people who work in DC. Crime is relatively minimal in the outer suburbs (Loudon, Prince William, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and Faquier Counties), but housing prices are starting to climb much like those in the inner suburbs. Schools in PW, Stafford and Spotsylvania Counties are growing rapidly and aren't quite at the same standard as Fairfax County yet. If you're interested in the things that DC has to offer (professional sports, concerts, restaurants, etc.), you'll find that they are just at the edge of convenience to get to from that region, given the drive. Like anything else having to do with a housing location, it's all pretty much a matter of personal priorities.

I guess the one big drawback that I have heard from folks who live in the area is that a lot of the utilities are done aboveground and when a decent storm comes through, they can be cut off for days due to trees on power lines. Also, due to the largely rural nature of some of those counties, particularly Stafford, Faquier and Spotsylvania, any snow during the winter tends to result in school closures, which can be inconvenient, to say the least.

I talked to the lady today, and she said that they are in the 2nd stage reviewing apps right now, and if your status hasn't changed to 'forwarded to selecting official', then you're out of the process. Same with the intel analysts positions (she said there were 70,000 applications).

I wonder how many apps got thru to the VA FO's. Has anyone talked to a FO applicant recruiter?

Thanks for the update txpatriot. I looked at my profile earlier this morning and it still says "referrd to selecting official".....which it has the whole time. Did she say how many spots are still open or if any had been filled at all?

Sweet mother, above ground utilities......ugghh. I haven't seen those since Jams shorts were popular! :D As far as the snow cancellations, I'm used to it where I am now, so no big change there for me.

I looked in the Fredericksburg/King George area and found some great houses at a better price than what I built for here. Plus the property taxes were about a third of mine! It looks like I can get more bang for my buck, so if the phone decides to ring, I have an idea of where to look from there. Thanks for the info, BuMan.

Nope, but she did make sure that I hadn't applied for the position that was cancelled. I mentioned the 4-5 openings that were previously open, and she said that sounded right. The lady I talked to wasn't the applicant recruiter contact for the crime analyst position, so she wasn't completely aware of what was going on...
