SF 86 question
i applied to the ia last year and rec'd a phone call from HQ asking for my SF 86 about 2 1/2 - 3 mos after applying... a couple of months after that i got an interview... i didn't get a call back and applied again to the ia as soon as it opened up... about the same amount of time has passed after submitting my app this time around as had passed after submitting the last one and receiving the phone call asking for my SF 86... i'm one of the ppl w/ the 'best qualified' tag on the website; however, i haven't heard anything regarding submitting further info... is submission of the SF 86 prerequisite for getting an interview? are SF 86's from previous announcements used for apps that are currenlty being processed? any info would be appreciated...

When you say you "didn't get a call back" do you mean you didn't get hired after the interview and they told you they weren't going to hire you, or you literally never got a call back?
How long did you wait before you applied again?
Remember, depending on the agency, these things tend to take a LONG time. For my job the process took 18 months and that was quick as far as I was concerned.
Some agencies do reuse the SF-86. It saves them the time and money of having to conduct a whole new BI. Some don't and prefer not to trust what the other BIer did.
There is nothing hard and fast about an SF-86 being a prerequisite, but they'll want to know who they're dealing with before an interview begins to see if you're qualified. Then the BIer will use the 86 to do his checks.
I always hated to hear this but "be patient". If not, go ahead and call the agency and ask someone to make sure that your name is still in the process.
Good luck.

i just didn't get a call back... i finally broke down and called the local recruiter about 3 mos after the interview and was informed that all of the positions had been filled... to the best of my knowledge the BI was never started (at least no one i know ever said anything about being contacted by the fbi)... i submitted the sf86 in may 2004.... i applied again to the ia position as soon as it became available this past spring (i think it was may)... most of my concern for the bureau using the sf86 i submitted last year lies in the fact that quite a few important pieces of information have changes since then... i'd be happy to send an updated version; however, i have yet to hear anything regarding this and don't want to send unsolicited paperwork...
