In General, when applying for a gun licence, there is a question about reason for wanting the license. What would be the best answer for this question? Should i put employment? Hunting and Rec.?

Do you mean a license to purchase, or a license to carry? When I got mine (to purchase), I think that it is more of an issue of if you are qualified to own a gun. I don't think the reason is all that inportant, as long as you don't list "Revenge" as your motivation.

Some of the questions (in MN) were like "Have you ever been in a mental institution?", "Have you ever renounced your US citizenship?", "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?"

I personally think they are just trying to weed out any crazys!

sorry if i was not clear, but i was infering to a license to carry. In MA they ask all those question listed by the above respondent but they also ask for a reason. I guess they just like to get an idea of wahat people are yousing them for.

I think that if you are going for LE, or if you state it is for target practice or for protection, you'll be fine....that is...as long as you're not a felon. He He. Just kidding man. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be approved.

Massachussets?? They allow for concealed carry there? I didn't think the Kennedy's even allowed firearms in the state.

In Mass, if you want to carry concealed at all times, you have to apply for "All lawfull purposes," or "protection of life/property "

Good luck, they are hard to come buy.

Copkid,
If you put down hunting and rec, then you will get a general hand gun permit, NOT A CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT. This is only good to buy a handgun and transport it to and from hunting locations and ranges. Unless, you carry large amonuts of cash for a business, the concealed permit is more than likely out of the question. Once you get it be careful, because they'll look for a reason to take it back.

Case in point, I know and older gentleman in Mass. that inadvertantly shot himself with a BB pistol (which you also need a handgun permit for in MASS) in the hand. Long story short, he went to the hospital to have it removed, they reported it to the local PD as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The local PD then tried to revoke his pistol permit and confiscate his weapons.

If you want a concealed carry permit, then find a new job in a new state. Massachusetts and firearms don't mix, just look at what Smith and Wesson is up to.

Or you could just send a significant cash campaign contribution to whichever politician is well connected with the issuing authority... :)

Im a newbie, just wanna say hello..

Im thinking of applying for nj pistol permit to carry... now would the waiting period for me be shorter due to my occupation (Security) and also that ive been a Nj resident hunter for over 10 years , as opposed to somebody who will use it just for sporting, or recreational purposes?

To answer state questions regarding gun permits, pay a visit to the following Site:

http://www.packing.org/

They have information on all 50 states with Links and more.

They also have a "license tool" that will show you which states will accept another states CWP (Permit); in example at present it seems as though Floridas CWP is most widely accepted in other states.

As far as occupation, in most cases it matters little as it relates to processing time; they still do a fingerprint check, background and have to send it through the machine.

In most cases as far as justification/reason for wanting a permit the most accepted reason is for protection, though some states have a quark and require the statement "for all lawful purposes"...

Hope this and the Link helps.
