Well a few miles (and 2 states) the Philadelphia housing police is heading the way of the NYC Housing Police. They let go of something like 200 officers. Alot came over to Amtrak (not enough to fill our ranks) and quite a few are now SEPTA transit cops and some were turned over to the city and put in districts... I dont think too many housing police agencies are left.
i tell u where to go

I HAVE A COUSIN THAT WAS IN THE HOUSING PD IN OUR CITY FOR AROUND 10 YRS TILL THE CITY DECIDED TO ABOLISH THE POSITION AND TOLD THEM TO COME OVER TO THE REGULAR PD DEPT TO START FROM THE BOTTOM ALL OVER AGAIN OR GET LAID OFF. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT THERE UNION SCREWED THEM OVER WITH A LITTLE MORE THAN START PAY AND LOSS OF SENORITY

I was an Officer for the St.louis Housing Authority, but back in 98 they disbanded the organization stating thet the fed was not going to fund us anymore.
I was with the New York City Housing Police till we all got merged, now I am a sergeant in Street Crime Unit NYPD. Still with only 20 days to go till I retire, I will always feel that I started and ended my career as a Housing Cop. Keep up the tradition. Don
Gotta agree, there is nothing in the world like working the jets. Chicago used to have a housing PD til they disbanded it...it was a blast. For Chicago it was all about money....the City wanted the monies from Uncle Sam and they always claimed that they could "police the whole city, not just a few select 'hoods. I ronically, the Chicago Housing Authority created the PD because the CPD would not go into the jets until well after something happened. CHA had a great PD, everyone who applied to that agency knew exactly where they were going to work, there were no misgivings and because of that you had police officers who were nearly invincible and learned in 5 years what it takes most cop an entire career to learn. Like any agency it had problems....boy did it have problems, it had an inept administration... and a bureaucracy that thought the police was their private army!!!! Near the end many officers could see the writing on the walls.....and applied to the Chicago PD Of those that were hired by CPD nearly all of them found themselves in a specialized unit shortly after the completion of their probation...not a bad legacy for a bunch of guys who were never given their due simply because they worked the jets with ..."those people".......sure there were bad apples there always are......but they were incredible cops who has no problem telling crime to kiss their ass!!!!!!!!!
I read your post agree 100 percent with what you had to say. Some of the best cops I ever saw were housing cops. When you went into this department you knew just what you were getting into. You either sank or swam with the housing police, If you were good you worked another day if not you were fired or they buried somewhere. And what was also true is after the merger here in NY alot of our officers ended up in hi speed details with NYPD. Where the rubber met the road we proved we belonged.
Last thing do you know I never heard the projects called jets we use to call is the PJ or just projects. Its funny we never called it that Take care be safe Don
