Hello all. I am signing up to take an officer exam in September. I have been notified that the exam is the consortium type. I have taken about five exams and have done ok. I am number nine on a list now and hoping to see what happens. What exactly is a consortium test? I understand the basics, that it is one initial general test for all departments, but how do they select from the scores? Do candidates have a better chance of getting hired and are the eligibility lists usually good for a few years? Any info would help out and personal experiences too.

Thanks,
DDSBU

Is this the one for upper Montgomery Co. Police agencies (IE Lower Moreland,Hatfield etc..), if so it is the biggest rip off in the world. Its a pretty easy test mainly english.

Yeah, you got it! What do you mean ripoff? Are the agencies quality or what? I think it is worth taking the test at least. I am taking the Septa Test also in the fall. I interned in Philly all summer at the postal inspection service and came over to 30th street to the Salad Works and Hoagies Stand alot. I saw an Amtrak cop with a K-9 all the time. I am sure you know him. The inspectors eat over there a lot. Thanks for the reply.

Basically all those tiny little departments may have 1-2 openings, and they test somewhere close to 3000 people. They only give the test when they run low on $$$. If your from Philly or dont have your Act 120, you can pretty much forget it.

I know the k-9 guy your talking about, he's a good guy. Be glad you didnt eat @ McDonalds this summer. They had gotten some bad meat and madse quite a few of our cops sick.

Septa is a nice department. Have you looked at the Univ. Of Penn police? Good dept but seem to have way too much politics for me.
