I hear the NYPD have a PBA football team which travels the country and plays other big departments, any idea on how good and competitive they are?

Is that a good way to get in with the higher ups? I am in the last phase which I differed for the recent academy and still have a pretty strong arm. How long do you need to be OTJ to be eligible for the PBA team?

Also I might get NJ but if it doesn't pan out, I will need to get residency. I can make it to the academy from my house which is near the Lincoln Tunnel pretty quick. Any ideas on where would be good to get residency and at the same time afford my academy gear? Thanks for anyone offering advice!

the team is very good. know a couple of people on it. you have to try out for it. the guy i knew said the team told him not to do much until he was off probation because the job would toss you if got a serious injury, b ut you are eligible once you graduate.

i think staten island or queens would be good for low cost housing.

yeah, from what i heard it was a good place to make contacts. i don't really know any particulars other than that. papimike888 might be able to help out more.

rents in queens vary 650-1000 for something decent. if you have a car, insurance will be high and parking will be rough. however places like college point are good, but not near transit so you need to either drive to a subway or to work.

SI is actually okay too, (that's where i lived), but the toll is rough and transit to the ferry is about 1/2 hour and than the boat ride is another 1/2 hour.

I hear and also see alot of NYPD guys in the Northern NJ area, they use a family or friend as an address because I see the plates and see their car parked there for numerous days.

They say no one really checks but what's ur take on things?
