View Full Version : Workout for begining the Academy
I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to train to be prepared for the academy. I lift wieghts and run five days a week but I was wondering which should I concentrate on muscle mass or Cardio Endurnance?? I am in good shape, but I am not as bulked up as I used to be since I have been running three miles a day. Just curious.

Definitely cardio. Keep running. You will be doing alot of it during physical training. You will also need the endurance during defensive tactics. Good luck
ARE YOU DOING YOUR CARDIO IN THE MORNING, OR A T NIGHT? iF IT'S IN THE MORNING DO IT AT NIGHT, DON'T DO CARDIO IN THE MORNI G IF YOU WANT TO RETAI NAS MUCH MUSCLE MASS AS POSSIBLE. AS FAR AS GAINING MUSCLE MASS WITH CARDIO, YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO EAT A LOT!! UP TO 6 MEALS A DAY. BUT KEEP IT BALANCED, AND INCLUDE AN AMPLPE AMOUNT OF PROTEIN, CARBS, AND FAT IN EACH OF YOUR MEALS, EXCEPT YOUR LAST MEAL. IT SHOULD ONLY CONTAIN PROTEIN! TRY SUPPLEMENTING WITH PROTEIN POWDERS, CREATINE, GLUTAMINE..ETC ALSO CHECK OUT THE POST LABELED CREATINE / PURE PROTEIN;)

KEEP THE SAME WORKOUT. THEY AREN'T TESTING U TO SEE HOW STRONG U R IN THE ACADEMY THEY MOST THEY REQUIRE IS TO DO A 1 REP MAX BENCH PRESS OF YOUR WEIGHT FOR MOST PHYSICAL AGILITY TESTS HERE IN ILLINOIS IMO JUST KEEP THE SAME ROUTINE U WILL BE DOING QUITE A BIT OF RUNNING IN THE ACADEMY DOING A WEIGHTLIFTING/CARDIO COMBO IS BEST FOR OBTAINING A NICE PHYSIQUE AND WILL KEEP U IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

Eat lots of MRE's!
I have two 'non-weight' workouts that are military based that I teach as part of a certified Tactical Police Training course. They combine, strength, flexibility, and endurance...all in the comfort of your own homes with no equipment. One is approximately 1 hour long, the other is approximately 1/2 hour and is more condensed. Both are supplemented by running 2-3 times a week. If any of you would like the workouts, or would like to inquire about the training, or my own regimen, drop me a PM and be sure to include your email address.

Just keep doing what your doing! Try to increase your mileage though, get a little more running in each run until you can do 6 miles! Work on sit-ups, push-ups, and pull-ups! Good luck! Keep uas posted on your success!
