View Full Version : My Polygraph....How Did It Go????

Well today I had my Polygraph for the Sheriff's department. The Polygrapher was a female Detective that has been with the department for 20 years. She was firm but nice. It was a series of 4 test and took 3 hrs and 20 minutes. Totally different from what I expected. The Polygrapher told me that if I was having trouble with any of the questions she would let me know and we would discuss them. Well at the end of the 4th test, she said "Ok, your all done." She did not mention that I had any problems with any of the questions and sent me on my way with a handshake and a "Nice meeting you and the best of luck to you."
I am just wondering how this sounds to all of you? I was asked a whole lot of questions prior to being "hooked up" that I was not asked in the actual test. Confused me a bit. At the end she also asked if I had any questions. I asked when I would hear about the next phase (the psych). She said that she didn't know and to call Personnel. Just wanted to post my experience and welcome replies. Geez, I hate the waiting game. makes me nervous and I think I'm getting on my wifes nerves :bounce:
Don't sweat it I think that you passed if you didn't she would have told you she had some problems. Sit back and try to relax worring about it isn't going to help and stay off of your wifes nerves.

I agree with Birky!
One of the main reasons you would be asked about any questions that seemed deceptive is so that if you did fail your polygraph you really couldn't say, "I didn't even get a chance to explain or to talk about my answers".
Sounds like your background and poly were pretty smooth. I think you're well on your way!

I'll back up the posts above by saying that if the Polygrapher didn't ask you anything then its more than likely a good sign.
I am sure you did fine and on your way to the job.

If there isn't any discussion or mention of particular responses, it's a sign that the test results are probably clear in the mind of the test administrator! As to how the results are interpreted, time will see. The results aren't final based on the opinion of the administrator and will likely be referred for final determination to someone else. It sounds like it was a smooth process and you should probably look for another contact in a week or two depending on where the test results are sent.
Have a great day!
For everyone who has had a polygraph, I just wonder if it was as stressful for you as it was for me. I went in thinking it would be no sweat, since Iam a pretty truthful person, and really have nothing to hide. However, I also consider myself a pretty sensitive person, which I think led me to some problems on the test. When asked if I had ever "told a serious lie to someone in position of authority", I answered no, as we had discussed this beforehand and he assurered me this meant SERIOUS lie to a cop or a parent...well, I had trouble with that question..it kept coming up as deceptive...when asked why I said that all I can think of is when he asked me that question my mind races about ANY time I lied to my parents...I consider them all a mistake, and I couldn't help but think of it....
It was very frustrating, and in the end we shook hands and he just said, "we'll see.."
so do you think he was just trying to get me to change my answer, like the oral board does?
Man, I hate Poly's......

It sounds like she was very professional and that you did fine on the exam. I was fortunate enough the have polygrapher tell me that I had passed, although it was unofficial. Nothing is final in this LE hiring business until you actually get hired, but as for now, I wouldn't spend any time worrying or thinking about this--worrying anyway. It went about as well as you could hope for. Start preparing mentally for the next test/interview, etc. Good luck.
I have taken two poly's and past both, both poly's ended just like yours so I would say you past. Put this behind you and think about the next step.
Best of luck.
