View Full Version : Home Life and the SSG
Understandably, much of the training and work of the SSGs is not talked about due to OPSEC reasons. However, I have a somewhat general question regarding the work schedule of a "typical" Investigative Specialist. I know that hours will vary due to needs and the types of cases one is working on, but I am trying to get a sense of how regularly an SSG gets home for dinner (so-to-speak). I ask because I recently met someone and our relationship is going really well. We both understand that we won't see much of each other during my training (if we see each other at all while I am at Quantico), but I think that we can survive the 7 weeks. I am also very lucky in that the person I am seeing is willing to consider moving with me IF the Bureau decides to send me to another city (I have no idea where I'll be assigned as of yet). But, I was wondering how much at-home time I can expect during a typical week. Any ideas from someone who is on the job? I'd appreciate any feedback that does not violate OPSEC. Feel free to PM me if you like! THANKS EVERYONE!

you can bank on a semi-regular schedule that will change on the spur of the moment based on specials and TDY's. All of it depends on the office and how many teams it has. One could assume to either be on a morning team, evening team , late team, OR to be on a team that does all 3 but based on a set rotation. I would say you should have no problem maintianing your relationship. That is as long as your sig. other is not the "highest of the high mainence" and that he/she is ok with you not talking about work. That can be harder than the scheduling issue.

I haven't received the call, but I have completed the process and have a coe. I do have a question that maybe someone who has received the call can answer. I was speaking with a civilian employee at my FO today who said my "target completion date" was 072505. Can someone explain what that means or what happens when you reach that date? Thank You.

LOL...So I suppose I should be ready for just about anything when it comes to scheduling...Fair enough. I knew the deal before I even applied and factored that into my discernment about the position. But thanks for the feedback Rolltide. I appreciate it.
As for being comfortable with not talking about work, I am of the mind that I'd rather not burden people that I care about (relationships or friends and family) with things that they really don't need to know about. I care about them too much for that. When I explain it this way, my family, friends, etc. they are actually very understanding and even thankful that I don't go into details about the type of work I'll be doing (not that I even know...since I have yet to start...lol).
Ok, thanks, again, Rolltide! Be well and stay safe.
