Just received this info from Ex-Agents group:

NEW: Five-SeveN Pistol

This pistol will quickly become the weapon of choice for the "bad guys."* I suspect that it will be replacing the "nine"

The gun has a 20 round capacity and weighs under 2 pounds loaded. Now here is the worst/best part, the new 5.7x28mm rounds will penetrate 48 layers of kevlar. That is the equivelant of a level IIIa vest. It will also penetrate a ballistic SWAT helmet at 240 meters and will penetrate an enrty vest at 300 meters. Luckily they are only selling to law enforcement and military, but we know where these guns will end up. Good for us to carry, bad, very bad, for us to come in contact with.

The Five seveN Pistol is the companion weapon to the P90 sub-machine gun. The Five seveN is an easily concealable double action pistol with a larger, 20-round magazine capacity. A maximum use has been made of composite materials in the frame and slide to result in an extremely light weight, 1.7 pound, design. The 5.7x28mm ammunition has the capability of penetrating body armor at extended ranges. This new ammunition features a
lead-free projectile to eliminate environmental concerns.* NATO STANAG classification for the ammunition is currently underway.

Technical Data:

Length:*****8.2 inches

Height:*****5.4 inches

Weight:*** -Empty*****1.4 pounds*** -Loaded****1.7 pounds

Magazine Capacity:*20 rounds

Penetrate PASGT vest**300 meters

Penetrate PASGT helmet***240 meters

Penetrate CRISAT vest***100 meters

From everything that I have read about the 5-7 and FN you don't have to worry about it becoming the Bad Guy's gun. This will be sold only to military and LE. So yes a few could end up on the street but there wont be a mass flooding of BG's with them.

FN said it WILL NOT sell to the ordinary public and has put strict measures in place to make sure that only those they want are buying it.

A friend of mine who is a cop in the North-East, just told me about a similar weapon. It was already used in some robberies/shootouts with gangbangers where he works, with devastating results he added. Remember, they may not sell it to the public, but the bad guys have ways of getting a hold of the latest toys.

Believe me, if it's made, it's going to wind up in the hands of crooks. The illegal market in firearms worldwide is just nuts. Restrictions are LAWS and we know how much these guys respect laws and restrictions. TEXASBPA's post supports that the weapons are already hitting the streets. What's really scary is the damage that can be inflicted. (Note entry vest penetration at 300 YARDS!!

Stay alert and alive!!

Guys,

Ballistically, this is basically a 7.62X39 short. (Think AK round downsized for a pistol.)

A few years ago I read an article on this weapon/caliber. This innovative weapon system uses the same principle as the .357 SIG, in its "necked down" casing, like traditional centerfire rifle projectiles. The casing design allows for a larger propellant capacity "pushing" a smaller (the necked down part) projectile at higher velocities, giving the bullet, and I'm assuming FMJ here, unparalleled penetration performance.

If I recall correctly the bullet itself is even shaped more like a rifle bullet in that it is prorortionally longer from tip to base than say a .45 ACP, which has a large diameter, but is a fairly typical (short) pistol bullet. This shape would contribute to the uncanny penetration ability of the weapon.

Does anyone have pics they could post/email, or a web link to view pics and info on this gun? I'm not a weapons expert, but since I'm going to be working in LE soon I figure I had better be able to identify these types of guns.

Thanks all,
- Steve
