I assume I should, even though I look like a big old babyface without it. Also it hides my ever so slight extra chin (not really an extra chin, but I feel that it makes my face look thinner with a goatee).
Thanks
Chad
I say you should shave you won't be able to wear it while working in uniform more than likely. So get used to having it gone now.

You always want to present a professional image, especially during an interview for a job! As far as shaving the goatee is concerned, if you feel it's important to get rid of it, do so! It's going to grow back. On the other hand, if you don't get the position, back to square one. I don't think it's necessary to shave it off unless you look like Charles Manson! You can have a professional interview with facial hair. They know you'll have to shave it off if you're hired and you know also. It may make for a point of interest during the interview to see how you feel about it. Again, your choice!
Have a great day!

Mr. Roscoe took the words out of my mouth:p You definitely want to present a professional image. Go into the board and have that "cop look" about you. In a few days your goatee will grow back and you can look like a citizen again:D. One more thing, GOOD LUCK!:D
I too fall into the "shave it off" category. Present the appearance that you would in uniform, if hired. Best of Luck on the interview !!
I agree with everyone else, shave it off, and if you have "long hair", get it cut. If you have an ear ring(s) take that sucker out to, and rent a nice Suit for your interview. Good luck!

I say shave the goatee, but RENT a suit gbcop? I'm assuming that's some kind of strange Texan way of saying to buy one, right? That's not really a dig either, I love Texas. All my ex's live there. That's why I...........well, you know the rest.

SHAVE IT OFF! SHAVE IT OFF! No offense or anything, but you are not going to a GQ photo shoot. If you don't shave it off you may make a bad impression, and usually the interview itself is hard enough without having to worry about "ok they are looking at my gotee, I should have shaved it". Just my opinion. Hope you do well!
Best Wishes,
Steve

I will join the above post by saying shave it off! A clean shaven face presents a more professional look. Good luck to you!

No, I mean rent one. There are places around here that you can rent a suit or "Tux's", these shop's are for those poor folks like myself who can't afford to dish out $200+ on a suit. Once I finally get hired, the cost of moving and other expenses will have my credit card bill will be pretty high. And any charges I can keep off the card will help reduce some the financial burden off my shoulders. That’s my take on renting a suit, but nevertheless, I’m sure everyone here would agree that you should wear a suit for your job interview.

Go with what everyone is saying & shave. You gotta look the part! You could have a mustache though as alot of cops have 'em.

I have to ask, in my own case: How about a small, conservative, neatly trimmed mustache? Especially if it hides a small scar (the result of a childhood accident)?
EagleEye,
I think mustaches are fine as officers in uniform are usually allowed to have them. I think as long as you have a haircut & facial hair that fall within most departments’ regulations you'll be okay. You'll appear to be like one of the guys & this can only help during the app process, if only at a subconscious level.

gbcop,
OK, I'm down with that. I'm sure you can rent a much nicer suit than a lot of us can afford too, so it makes sense. I've just never heard of it. Of course I've heard of renting tuxedos. I like those pale green ones along with a white ruffled shirt that has the pale green trim. That is sharp! Oh, and white shoes too.

SHAVE IT! I agree with everyone else. You want to present yourself in the most professional manner as possible. And most agencies will not allow you to have a goatee unless you are in some kind of special assignment. Good luck and buy your own suit. It will pay off in the long run. :)

:bounce: Get out the Mach III ravor!!!!! I shaved mine off ,even with my wife protesting! Buy a suit, I got the complete package for about $175.00. That is a small price to pay, and you'll need to wear a suit on alot of interviews. I had the chance to attend the LAPD oral interview seminar, and the first thing that they strongly suggested was to shave all facial hair for the oral interview! If you want to have a profesional look ,you want to give off a good ,first and last impression. In regards to long hair and flashy jewerly, loose it ,at least when your going to a interview. If you want to be in L/E start looking and acting like a officer, otherwise you can always go into the computer biz!

Hell!! Just grow the longest beard you can and walk in wearing a tank top, bermuda shorts, sandals (with socks) and one of those beer hats! Make sure that you don't brush your teeth too after eating a package of oreo's. As far as your hair goes, get one of those mohawks and color it pink. Don't forget the numerous piercings in the ears, nose, eyebrows, and tongue. Finish the whole thing off by polishing your nails black. After all this, you should be ready.

P.S. I was being sarcastic. I think you already knew what you had to do, I think you just needed someone to give you that ray of hope that you could get by without shaving. Well, you won't find that ray of light here. Sorry.
