I've been reading the Extacsy thread with some interest, my question is I read that meth/extacsy are chemically related. Extacsy also has "methamphetamine" in its chemical name. Are these two similar in effects as well? How about long term damage..I know Extacsy damages the brain after useage does meth have the same negative effects on the brain?
I dont know about the brain,
but there are no old meth cookers.
The fumes from the chemicals
ruin the liver, kidneys, and lungs.
Of course the cops who busted the
early labs without proper chem gear
now have the same problems.
Anyone notice that heavy meth users
are sugar freaks? We have to dole out
the sugar in the jail. Otherwise they would
use the whole jar at mealtime.

Over the years I've seen meth users stay awake for 48 to 72 hours straight. Given the amount of sleep we require to function normally, and the amount of stimulation that occurs when using meth, I certainly would expect that methamphetamines would cause significant long term damage to the brain. I recommend you contact your local medical examiner's office and pay them a visit. Believe me, the doc should be more than happy to answer your meth question. He or she would also probably be glad to show you an example or two.
Stay safe
MDMA has a chemical structure similar to methamphetamine, as well as the hallucinogen mescaline. Use of MDMA has been shown to cause degeneration of neurons containing the neurotransmitter dopamine. Damage to these neurons is the underlying cause of the motor disturbances seen in Parkinson's disease. Symptoms of this disease begin with lack of coordination and tremors and can eventually result in a form of paralysis. We've seen similar symptoms in long time meth users.
Brain imaging research in humans indicates that MDMA causes injury to the brain, affecting neurons that use the chemical serotonin to communicate with other neurons. The serotonin system plays a direct role in regulating mood, aggression, sexual activity, sleep, and sensitivity to pain. Many of the risks users face with MDMA use are similar to those found with the use of cocaine and amphetamines.
Hope this helps answer your question. Stay safe!

Or, you could just ask a DEA agent :)
Very nice reply dmclark!
Stay safe...
Meth is a popular drug with truckers who use it to stay awake on long hauls. Scary thought....
