Any of you Navy guys tell me. I am planning a family trip out to VA and would like to stop at the Navy yards, either there or in PA. Do you know if they are still giving tours. And which spot may have the best, we would like to see an Aircraft Carr. My son is really into them. Maybe you can provide a good idea. Were going to PA then WAS DC then on to VA. If you know of a good web site let me know Thanks.

Here in Philly, the navy yard has been closed for about 5 years. There is a small mothballed fleet of ships here but your not allowed on them. You can try Penns landing but there really isnt too much along the riverfront.

They used to have a ship and a sub in the Washington DC Navy Yard where they gave tours as a tourist attraction. Don’t know if they still have them or not. Maybe someone else knows. As a last resort, contact your Congressman’s office.

I think Norfolk will give tours but I am not sure since they tightened security. You can probably give their public affairs office a call and find out. If not Nauticus which is the National Maritime Museum has a battleship which you can tour. It is in downtown Norfolk.

Nauticus also has boat tours of the Norfolk navy base. They run every couple of hours throughout the day. Nauticus is a great museum. The battleship there is the USS Wisconsin. they only let you tour the main deck, and part of the outside of upper decks. they have not opened up the ship's interior as of the end of July.

Their not going to open the inside because they need to keep the ship in a condition were it can be recalled to active service according to the news around here anyways.:bounce:
