I have a trip planned to Hawaii next month and I am in the market for an underwater digital camera. Does anyone have any experience with them? Brand, model, pros/cons, picture quality, memory, etc.....
Thanks in advance and I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend.
If you already have a digital camera, you could just buy a waterproof housing for it and save yourself some money. Any good dive store/website will have numerous choices. They are usually a plastic clamshell that seals the camera in and has external buttons. I've seen some pics from someone using one of these and they really turned out great.

You could always take some waterproof disposable cameras and have the pics put on to CD's.
If you are looking for camera stuff do a google search for B&H, you will not de dissapointed, very reputable.

I bought one of these, it works pretty well, if your only snorkling, you can get away with the disposable ones. If your diving, this one is pretty good, and it was cheap compared to some. I opted away from the housing. I kept thinking that if it leaked, I ruin my out of water camera. If this one leaked, I had some recourse. It worked well and the results were very good. It's 3.3 megapixels.

First, thanks everyone for all the great input. I'll be doing some caged shark diving as well as some snorkeling.

The housing is is a great concept. Not sure how many times I am actually going to need an underwater digital so this might be my best choice.

B&H has an exceptional site, very well put together and lots of useful info. Thanks for the tip! As far as the disposable, I'm a little nervous considering the shark diving will be an action shot. Plus, the range of the disposable might be an issue.

Just read up on the Reefmaster, it seems like the perfect fit for what I have planned, I am going to look into it a little more coupled with the housing option, from what I saw on the site, they now offer a 5.0 megapixel version, the DC500 with "shark mode" However, $500 for a one-time thing is a tough sell for myself. The DC300 is around half that from what I have saw. Time to do my homework.
Thanks again for the input everyone. It has been very helpful :gpost:
