View Full Version : Changes for CBP firearms policy
There is a rumor going around that BIG changes are in store for the firearms program. The changes would be positive from a "police" point of view. Off duty weapons authorized....etc. Any CBPO'S or F/A/I here anything about the changes???/

I just returned from Ft. Benning. No such rumors are circulating there. In fact, in my short tenure with the government, I have become increasingly skeptical about rumors, even when they come from sources I would believe to be reliable. When I have it in a memo that is not ambiguously worded, then I believe it.
Just returned myself. No rumors that I heard, either.
You didn't "just return" as in FI-508 just return, did you? My the internet makes the world a small place at times.

No, but I think I saw you guys out at Fiske Range.
For those coming form Ft. Benning do you know when the H&K will be issued?
FYI, I am ICE, but I saw a bunch of HK P2000s at my local now CBP Air and Marine Branch...they were just waiting on holsters before quals. Nice pistols. So you CBPers should see them soon. I am wondering when I get my new ICE Sig P229R.

Is the HK P2000 on the ICE approved list? If so a P2000 duty and P2000SK off duty/back up combo would be a nice option. I guess the only downside is that you have to buy 2, 800 dollar guns.

Tripwire,
The P2000SK is, but the P2000 is not.

As was stated in the other post, I was told some AMO folks have already received some (very reliable). I have also been told, by someone at FLETC, that the new hire CBPO classes due to graduate in November are being issued H&Ks rather than Glocks (no verification). Rumor (only rumor) has it the Beretta shooters will be the first of those already in the field to transition to the new gun. Maybe Erik has more information.
I believe that CBP has taken delivery of the first scheduled deliveries of P2000s and that they've been inventoried and are in the process of being OK'd by the armorers.
Word is that they'll start to make their way into the field sooner than later. We've got one for familiarization. No details on when we'll get more, or on who should expect to get the first batches. (Probably the Academy, select ports, and AMO - but that's just an educated guess.)

SIU contact me ASAP.......
This is from a good friend of mine who is an instructor and was recently down in FLETC on a TDY.
Regarding the new firearms policy. They are working on a new policy that will be less restrictive. They are toying with more than one option. One will be a blanket policy for all CBP ..CBPO, BPA, AMO...etc. It can't be any worse than the current policy.
We all know about the HK's .......the firearms switch was done to be in conjunction with a new firearms policy. I think all classes after Aug. 25th will be issued the HK.
In late August Assistant Commissioner JAYSON P. AHERN was at FLETC and he completed a PEB, Defensive tactics, baton and OC. From what I heard he actually did pretty well. He was sprayed in the face with the OC and did Redman. Why would the assistant commissioner do this? Makes you wonder.
PEB......there will be new physical standards coming in October. I believe that passing scores will be commensurate with age. If you fail you are gone. Also a possibility that there will be pre-PEB's at pre-Academy

Siu,
Great news if the new firearms policy comes through.
What are the chances that CBP will allow Officers to purchase their service issued weapons?
I personally have become attached to my 9mm Glock 17. I would consider purchasing a replacement G17 if we are unable to buy the service issue.

The chances are pretty much Nil. The Government cannot sell directly to us, they must go thru a 3rd party. And the way they see it is that there is a good chance that the 3rd party will sell it to someone other than us. So, in short, spend as much time with your 17 as you will soon be saying bye to it.
I was told here at FLETC that the majority of the Glock 17’s will be destroyed. On a side note the last two CBPI classes to report to FLETC have been issued new H&K P2000 red guns.
