I recently bought a new leather holster for off-duty wear that has that ever-advertised "FBI forward cant." I'm used to wearing a kydex in-the-waistband holster that draws straight up. I find the forward-cant holster to be an absolute pain in the rear to draw and seems to take longer to get the barrel forward than the straight up draw. ;)

Have to ask: what's the purpose of the forward cant? I've seen many of the Feds I've worked with wearing them and never thought about it until I got one myself.

It prints less. I always called it the FBI cant...and finally saw it written out from Comp-Tac (I think that was it...) as Forward Body Incline...I always thought it was in reference to Female Body Inspector?

I have two "FBI" cant holsters, I find them quite comfortable.

I agree, it is comfortable - much more so than my ITWB holster. However, the draw is extremely awkward. It must simply take muscle memory to draw while dislocating one's shoulder. :o

I've never had that problem...where are you wearing it?

I have one from Bianchi and one from Highnoon holsters. They both give me a smooth draw.

I've found that an FBI cant holster draws easier when carried more towards the 4-5 o'clock position. I normally carry at the 3 to 3:30 position, so most of my holsters are vertical. YMMV.

I have an off duty holster that is canted to the front, about the same as the duty holster that I use. I have no problems drawing from it, but I feel that is because of the similiar cant to my duty holster.

Now to offer up my ignorance, what is the "FBI cant". I did not realize until after I had purchased my holster that they offered them canted and uncanted. Is the "FBI Cant" the normal cant that is on most duty holsters, or is it a greater or lessor cant? I am just asking because it might clarify to some, because I don't know the extent of the cant, I assume others would not.

As far as the cant, it probably will get easier to draw once you get muscle memory established, after 4 1/2 years I would not want to change holsters to one without a cant.

The FBI cant is more radical than a duty holster...it places the grip of the weapon about 15-20 degrees forward of the muzzle. HTH.

I think you've hit it on the head. I was trying to wear it in the same place I always do - at about 3:30. Wearing back farther makes it more smooth. Thanks.

Everythings a trade off, as usual. Concealabilty, access, speed, retention, etc.

How to place a holster:

Lock your wrist.
Point your index finger.
Place hand at side, finger pointing down.
Sweep your hand back starting at 3 o'clock.
When your finger angle matches the cant of your holster, place your holster there.

Or...

Learn to live with breaking your wrist when aquiring your grip.

Comp-tac. I don't know if they are good holsters or not, but I knew they had decent photos of a holster where you could change the cant.
