Hello everybody. I'm considering leaving CA to join some family in the Vegas area, and was kinda eyeballing LVMPD. Curious..does anybody know what the department issue pistol is? And what other brands they authorize their guys to carry? Also, any info on what long guns are okay for work? I don't know if they issue long guns (i.e. AR's, mini-14's) beside the standard pump 12 guage, and was curious if you are allowed to use your own for work. Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know about long guns. The issued pistol was a Beretta 92 the last I heard. They authorize many personally owned hand guns. I think most of the force are using Glocks with .40 and .45 being the preferred calibers. Also check out North Las Vegas P.D., they are a good dept. although parts of North town can be rough.
Good Luck, John

I'm a former metro officer (I'm a FLEO now), I'm not going to discuss what type of firearms are issued or not in a public forum. What I can tell you is that LVMPD is great dept. great pay, no social security contributions, the dept pays for your state pension, no state income tax, you pay for your defer comp (401K). A lot of room for promotions and specialized assignments opportunities. The community is very pro-law enforcement. I had a great ride.......................if you are thinking about jumping ship, LVMPD is a great choice!!!

There are a bunch of threads on LVMPD and North Las Vegas.
They should be able to help you out.
If your thinking about doing a lateral to LVMPD Its my understanding that they have put that on hold..at least temporarily.

Good Luck,,

Hey thanks for the info guys. I'm not in a sworn position in CA, I'm a dispatcher. Was looking to make the jump to sworn out of state. I have no intentions of staying in this state anymore. Figured I'd try Vegas being that I have family there. Thanks again. :)
