For Academy graduation I was given a gift certificate to Danner boots. What is the best boot to go for?

I've got the Danner 8inch Goretex Striker model and they are the best boots I have ever had. They have a more athletic sole and are extremely light, they even keep my feet cool in the summer.
DEA issued to Danner "Arcadia" and I never liked them. Too heavy and hot for me. The Striker looks better. DM
Ya, no thanks on the Danner boots. Way to heavy, and the inner padding inside of the boot under your foot wears down in a month. I always feel like i'm walking on the concrete.

I wouldn't view the Danner Arcadia as a daily work boot. I've had a pair of insulated Arcadias for years, and I love'em. But I spent a bit of time humping up and down mountainsides in northern Iraq in the wintertime fully loaded down - and they went through the same treatment in Afghanistan. Felt great from the get-go without any break-in, and with the right socks, my feet were always fine despite weight, distance and terrain.
Damn sure wouldn't wear'em in warm weather or in urban ops, whatever the weather.

Was looking at either Striker GTX or Stinger GTX. Stinger is all leather upper, Striker is leather/cordura. Both are 8" with Gore-tex lining. Stinger are not insulated but Stiker has 400g thinsulate.

Go with the Striker GTX 8". I have a pair and love them. I recently got a pair of the all leather version with a side zip. Same feeling for them, nice and lite with plenty of support. I have tried other brands and will stick with the Stikers.

I also have the same pair, love them, Mine are waterproof and they work all the time, if you think your gunna be out a lot in the winter I'd invest in the thinsulated models, but the gortex seem to work fine in all weather.

I have to agree- I really like my Strikers.

Would you go with the all leather and zip or the leather/cordura lace? The combo looks to be a little lighter in weight than all leather.

I am wearing the all leather zips right now. I think they are about the same weight as the cordura ones. Also as far as leather and break-in, I didn't notice any stiffness like other boots I have tried.

I'm on my second pair of uninsulated Acadias and wouldn't ever wear anything else. (So far)

I haven't heard much about the Acadias, but up here in MN it snows so the trend is to buy either 2 pr. of boots, or just buy a waterproofed/insulated set, are your acadias heavy?
Arcadias are my choice...I love mine

LearninginMN ,
Yes, they are a little heavier than some of the newer, tennis shoe type boots. But, after 9 yrs in the military and 2.5 yrs as a patrol officer, these are by far the best, sturdiest boots I have worn. I am in Ca., so I get the uninsulated version, which are still water proof. I have stood at accident scenes for long periods of time in the pouring rain in these boots, and while the rest of me got soaked, by feet were good and dry.
The Acadias(and all Danners) are pretty expensive, but in this case, you DO get what you pay for. I don't have a habit of being a product spokesman, however, I have been through numerous pairs of boots(and brands) trying to find the best for me (I'm pretty picky!), and I will wear Danner for the rest of my career. :banger:

Thanks Army, maybe I'll look into them but for now I'm in love with the strikers, light and the same waterproofness as yours. Thanks for the reply

Danner Acadias are the best in my opinion. I don't think they are too heavy, they just feel sturdy and extremely well built. They will literally last years if you have them re-soled. Best boot for the money.

I have the Strikers and the Acadias. I like the Strikers for the summer months because they are lightweight and non-insulated. For the winter, however, I wear my Acadias. Like the other LEOs have said on here, Danner builds a quality product. Up here in Montana, cold and wet feet make for a very uncomfortable shift. So, in my opinion, either boot is a good choice.
