Hey all,

Looking for a gift for my step-dad. He works plainclothes a fair ammount of time, and I was thinking about picking him up a pair of lightweight cuffs.

A friend of mine has a pair of American Handcuff Company titanium cuffs (model # 105 S), but it seems that they're no longer made (admittedly, my Google-Fu is weak).

I've also tried searching for a quality pair of aluminum cuffs, with no returns.

Anybody have any suggestions? Alternative would be to buy a pack of flex-cuffs, but he'd prefer the traditional handcuffs.

So anybody know where I can score some good quality aluminum or titanium cuffs? I don't want cheap chinese knock-off junk ( would *YOU* want to carry that?), I want a good quality company.

Am I SOL or what?

Thanks!

Hiatts makes a good pair of lightweight or at least they did. I have had a pair I got about ten years ago while on active duty.

The new Asp cuffs are pretty light. I know several companies are also now making leather gear to hold them.

We had a video going around work showing the new light weight ASP cuffs being compromised by a plastic comb. The individual came out of the cuff rather fast. Might want to do a little research on them first.

I've seen guys get out of cuffs with combs, bobby pins, paper clips, etc. The weight of the cuff doesn't effect the locking mechanism

S&W had a great lightweight cuff they discontinued. Try the Hiatt's Lightweight, capable of holding the big guy wrists and it's only 7 oz.

The first round of ASP's new cuffs were very easy to pick because of a design flaw. After speaking with an ASP rep at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas this year, he indicated the design flaw was discovered by a disgruntled former employee who made the video you may have seen. Once it was brought to ASPs attention, they recalled all older model handcuffs, and began producing new ones without the former vulnerability. From what the ASP rep said, the newer ones are good to go.

I carry Peerless chained, they are fairly light, and reliable.

The American Cuffs were featherweight. You may be able to find them on eBay or the like.
