There is a video going around work where a guy goes for a gun grab, Officer clamps down on the "offenders" hand and the "offender" rips the hoster off of the belt. Has any one seen that or have experience with FOBUS holsters??? :o

Holsters are one of those things that you normally get what you pay for. Fobus holsters are lightweight and flimsy plastic holsters that offer little to no real security. There are good kydex holsters on the market that offer the same basic style as Fobus with better quality and retention.

I have two FOBUS holsters. After I watched that video I decided to not use them again, but remember as it was already said.. you get what you pay for! I have switched to the CQC-SERPA and I LOVE IT! I thought I'd see another fobus copy but I was VERY wrong.

Remember the Fobus Holster was designed for plain clothes agents to wear. It is not a duty holster like your Uncle Mikes' leval three. Yes the Fobus will break if it is ripped off of somebody. The Fobus is good for what it is meant for, but like everyone said they will break.

A ccw using a fobus holster is not the same as a cop in uniform.

I would use a Fobus at the range if you wanted, but never use it on duty. Cheap, can be ripped off the belt and weapons retention is poor. Whether your in plainclothes or a CCW holder...

Invest in your life with a quality holster and belt! DM

IMO, it's NOT good for what it is meant for, which is to say it doesn't do a good job of keeping your gun on your belt. Just because you work in plainclothes does not mean someone won't make a grab for your gun, and it certainly doesn't justify throwing weapons retention completely out the window. There are good concealed carry holsters out there, whether you go with leather or kydex or nylon, that are just as easy to draw from and that won't be easily ripped off of your belt.

FOBUS holsters are crap.

Don't even waste your money.

For something in kydex, Sidearmor or Blade Tech are the ways to go.

We use the FOBUS paddle holsters at work, and they are CRAPOLA! Same with the paddle mag holders. It's to the point now that every time I have to work an armed post, I bring in my Safariland 6280 and Bianchi mag pouches from home. I can just imagine having to chase an escaping inmate and having to choose between losing my weapon and losing my inmate. I will never ever use FOBUS if I can help it. I've got a $25 Uncle Mike's kydex paddle that works great for off duty, no complaints at all and it's sturdy!

Be aware that Blade Tech has two different levels of Kydex holsters. The more expensive one is the kind I use (I own 2) and it is first class. The less expensive one was more "flexible" and didn't seem as high quality (still superior to Fobus though).

Remember also, that you can have the best holster in the world but if you were it on a $2, thin belt then you haven't done yourself any favors.

Boy... not to ruin the Fobus bashing party.. but I like mine... never had a prob & don't plan to. Excellent retention... reliable on the quick draw, and light weight. the paddle and the holster are joined by rivets... of course, a 300 pound perp. TRYING to rip the damn thing off your belt will cause it to break. If you anticipate this situation... don't use it. Else, it'll work well.

It doesn't take much effort, and certainly doesn't require a 300 pound person to pop the rivets on a Fobus holster. The "excellent retention" you speak only goes as far as holding the gun until someone intentionally tries to take it from you, but in a fight for the gun the Fobus holsters offer nothing in terms of retention.

2. If you aren't "anticipating that situation" why are you even carrying a gun? You must always consider a gun grab situation when carrying. Does that mean carrying a level III rig for concealed carry? No, but you shouldn't sacrifice all retention just because you're carrying the gun concealed.

Forbus has it's place. In my eye, it is OK for casual use, not for duty use.

As far as it giving way with a 300# suspect (as mentioned above), sure it probably will. Then again, I don't trust my duty Safariland that far either. Take a look at any Safariland with a leather top strap and you will see wear after a couple of years. I have had two go bad on me. The layers (laminates?) begin to seperate and then finally the leather cracks. Since the leather cracking is the final flaw, the holster's integrity is probably compromised before you notice it.

Final thought, my Forbus is now living in a drawer somewhere. I have switched to the BlackHawk with the Serpa retention for off duty/casual use.

There are far better quality kydex holsters on the market that offer the same quick draw and light weight, and BETTER retention since they won't fall apart when someone (ANYONE) pulls at them. I'm all for sacrificing some retention for speed in plainclothes carry, but why throw quality completely out the window?

Used the fobus when there were few if any kydex holster options on the market at that time. I liked it, didn't LOVE it. I now also have the Blackhawk w/ SERPA technology. I LOVE the Blackhawk !!! I have one for my Kimber Pro-Carry & one for my Glock 17. I like the ability to change platforms for belt or paddle carry. I have even set it up for cross draw carry (on the belt) while I was driving from New York to Glynco (990 miles each way). As others have said, it is CRUCIAL to have a good quality belt when using any holster system. I have an Aker that has the built in plastic "stiffener" that reduces sag & flex.
