Hi! I'm going to be taking my NYSP Psy. interview in a couple of weeks. I was wondering what its going to be like? I had a friend join and graduate the FDNY and he said it seemed psy. interview was the roughest, because he said it seemed like the interviewer was 'trying to pick a fight'. I was just wondering if police psy. interviews are like that, or is that just an FDNY interview?
Also what's the trooper polygraph like? As I am scheduled for that in a few weeks, as well. The idea of a polygraph seems intimidating. Thanks and everyone be safe!

All depends on who your interviewer is. Where are you taking it? I took mine in albany 2 weeks ago. The women I got was really cool and didn't try to pick a fight with me or test me in ay way that I could see. But some of my friends say that the guys they got are very aggressive and try to get you to get angry or lost your cool. You will be fine al long as you remember why you are doing this. Stay cool and calm and you will be fine.

Hey thanks for the reply. I'm taking it in Oneida. It's good to hear not everyone tries to pick a fight. I'm going to keep my cool no matter what. Did you get scheduled for your polygraph yet? Good Luck!

I took my ply 2 weeks ago. I think I did fine, I mean I didn't lie to the guy. I disclosed everything. I still havn't heard anything though. My BI told me he would call after he spoke to the poly guy but he still hasn't called yet. I have to talk to him tomorrow anyways to let him know I have to go to FT Dix, NJ for a terrorism school so maybe he will say something tomorrow. I doubt it though. I have a very cool but cocky BI. He really doesn't give me any indications about how the process is going. Anyway, I am done with everything except the BI and the Medical, If I make it that far. Just be cool with the Psych guy and Disclose everything to the poly guy and you will do fine. Hope to see you at the academy!

sp20 when they do the poly do they have a standard set of questions they ask you or do they make em up?
and if they make em up how do they come up with them??

its a standard set and it's not nohting you never seen before or heard here before. Just about the same questions. You will do fine, turst me.(unless you're hiding something)

do you know anyhting about how much OT troppers get? is it there for the taking or is it hard to come by???

From what I understand, it depends on where you are stationed. I know some guys who get a lot of the new "Federal OT" sitting and watching sites, but I know others who do little OT. I guess if you want it it is there.

A guy I talk with once in a while has a brother who has been on with the Troopers for three years. He made over $70,000 with OT last year with 2 more years to go before his pay tops off.

My father knows tech Sgt's making over $100,000

With a 4 year degree a Troopers base after 5 is $57,000, their CONTRACT states that Troopers MUST be offered VOLUNTARY OT.
So you do the math after 5 years with OT a New York State Trooper will be doing ok.

The OT would be something i diffently would be intrested being i would take a pretty good pay cut going into the academy!!!
