View Full Version : Paperwork
Just wondering if any of you have to do paperwork for your officers? Myself every morning (i work 3rd) I print off copies of the "hotsheet" for each officer and attach any of his/her paperwork that was left in the 1st shift folder.
Each officer types his own report (i know some depts around where I work, the dispatchers type their reports)
I also do alot of faxing and other paper work for the guys on the street not because I have to but just to help them out. Maybe I do alot more work than I am suppose to and other dispatchers get a little ticked with me :( but I feel that it is my job to help them in any way I can to get them back on the streets where they belong.

We don't do any paper work for ours. Each of the three police departments I dispatch for have desk secretaries/record clerks that have responsibilities I'm not fully aware of so they might help out a little. The only paper work we do is this: Everytime messages or LEADS (Illinois) responses (plates, files, etc...) come back the computer automatically prints out a copy. We have to "rip paper" and send all the messages and LEADS responses down to the officer who ran it. It only takes a few minutes. All of the other paperwork we do is stuff that we need to get done for ourselves.
If we had to do the officers work we'd have to hire more people!
We do a large amount of paperwork. I do regular reports for walk in and telephone complaints.ex(lost or found articles, juv complaints, ect) File reports for NCIC and State (NJ) hits( recovery of stolen mv's, found persons, articles.) I do alot that I don't have to do, but i don't mind and enjoy the experience.
We do alot of paper work also at the agency I am with. Dispatch takes all the reports at the window and on the phone. All the hits, entries, plates, lic. TRO"s and warrants in sate system CJIN and NCIC. Some times the officers will ask you to type in the narrative for the report. I don't mind helping them out, it gives them more time to be out and about. On very busy nights in a small agency they don't have time to do it.

Wow! I can't believe that this many dispatchers do those types of reports. We don't even have windows or access to the public...Or maybe I should reverse that. They don't have access to us. Except through a phone line. :) This is interesting.

Yes we also do a large amount of our departments paper work. No counter work, all over the phone, but we do about 1/3 of all the reports. Mostly vehicle larcenys, vandalisms, lost property, plus the occasional fraud, burglary, and Missing Person. It's very good to free up officers time, but let me tell ya, a sane person can only hear so many times in their life, how someone didn't realize that leaving the cd player, and wallet out in a veh parked overnight would catch the wandering eyes of Bad Guys.

We dont do any paper work for our officers. We are not anywere even close to the main HQ. We are in our own building and with 2,200 + officers & 1.5 Million + calls a year, we would not have the time to do that if they wanted us to.
