View Full Version : carry permits for CO's
in the the county that i live and might be emplyed as a co they do not arm co's.
they say if you want one you have to do it privately.
is it easier to get a permit once employed? and can it be a carry permit?
anyone know
I think you will need to provide your state of residence before anyone can give you advice, since each state has different rules.
this would be for suffolk county, new york

Just a guess- Interesting question.
But for one reason or another- I believe in NY all CO's can carry off duty.
thanks Gregoire19,
anyone know for sure?

If you were a NYSDOCs CO then you would be a sworn peace officer and allowed to carry off duty. Same for NYCDOC. I don't know about Suffolk County COs though. Any of the deputies should be able to point you in the right direction. In NY pistol permits are (for the most part) at the discretion of the Sheriff. I would hope that the Sheriff in Suffolk would look out for his own deputies.
I don't have a definitive answer for you but I hope it clears things up a little.
