Hey all,
I'm currently in the process of joining my local auxiliary police division and I'm looking for some sound advice on hand cuff, flash light, glove, footwear, and body armor selection. Luckily my dept supplies everything else free of charge, including: Full uniforms, Glock .40 firearm, aerosol irritant, belt, everything except the items I listed above. I look forward to your suggestions!
Thanks!
A search will reveal recommendations for a lot of these items (especially foot wear).

Cj here are a few reccomendations:
Cuffs: Peerless ( like the hinged a lot, good quality cuff)
Flashlight: Streamlight I have the Stinger XT HP, the buttons on the end, making it to me a very sound tactical light, for a back up i carry a Strion (small compact light, re-chargable)
Boots: Danner Striker 8" Non-insulated
Body armor: This is a really big personal choice but a lot of cops i know like the Xtreme by ABA
Gloves: Depends on what you want them for i have 2 pair, one are just heavy winter gloves from Hatch, the other are puncture-resistant from Turtle (somethin or another)

Handcuffs- Smith and Wesson 300 hinged- I like them a lot better than Peerless, you can double lock from top or bottom
Boots- Bates Airlight
Flashlight- Stinger
Body Armor- my dept issues me Second Chance- I hope it works if I ever need it
Gloves- something made of Kevlar

Thanks for the suggestions. After doing some preliminary searches online and being confronted with an ocean of choices I figured this was the right place to pose the question.
Thanks again.
Start with your department general orders and uniform policy. They may already dictate what brands/types you carry.
Some other things to think about....
Handcuffs: Your defensive tactics methods may not be compatible with the type of cuffs. For example hinged cuffs are not compatible with Koga handcuffing techniques. Hinged cuffs are good for FBI method.
Flashlight: Does your department policy allow you to hit somebody with a flashlight? If so then consider getting a metal Streamlight SL-20. If not then don't be temped to hit folks with your flashlight and carry a plastic SL20 or a small light like a stinger, strion, or one of the new LED lights. You get what you pay for with lighting.
Boots: You get what you pay for here. Listen to advice and then go try them on. Mail order doesn't work here.
Body Armor: Don't buy used stuff. Do extensive research and be sure to try the armor on with your uniform before you buy.

LeeRoy-
Thanks for the sound advice! I'll check with my Lieutenant for procedural equipment conflicts before making any purchases.
