I haven't had much success with the search, so I apologize if it was out there, but there are soooo many pheonix posts that I couldn't dig up the answer, but I have a couple of friends planning on applying there. I know Phoenix is a big Taser customer, but what handgun are they issued, and is it a standard or are they allowed to buy something different. Also, do they carry any long arms? (shotguns, carbines, etc)

Thanks

Don't know about what specific model, but PHX PD carries Glocks. I know that they can get some long guns (One of my firearms instructors at the academy was a PHX guy with lots of guns, including Rem 870 12 Ga, and an AR 15), but can't give you any specifics on what they can or can't carry. Maybe DavidK can help on this one...

Issue gun is the Glock 22, unless you provide your own authorized Glock then you have the option of having them issue you a Glock 27. Several models in the .40 & .45 family of Glocks are authroized for carry if the officer wants to provide their own weapon. I know a few officers who carry their personally owned Glock 21 as a primary and a department issued Glock 27 as a backup/off-duty gun. Also a few Smith & Wesson and Rugar Revolvers (.38/.357 calibers) are authorized for secondary (backup) guns if the officer wants to carry one.

Officers who choose to seek out additional training have the opportunity to qualify with a Remington 870 Police Magnum shotgun. Officers who are qualified to carry a patrol rifle carry the Colt AR15.

Thanks for the info, we use Glock 22's over here. The transition should be painless.
