Mike, you will find some pretty helpful information on this site about VSP. Check out the employment pages, it will tell you about the academy, pay..etc From what I've heard though, it is pretty rough. however I think secret squrriel could answer this best. :bounce:

SecretSquirrel works for them he should be able to answer most of those questions. I know their academy is residential M-F and last I checked it is a total of seven months long but they break it up somehow. I have the utmost respect for the agency having backed them up and having them back me up. Very well respected.:bounce:

I washed out after the Oral during their last testing phase. My first Oral board ever. I still think the slick NYC accent didn’t fly to well down there. I also think I should of left the bright orange tie with white stripes home :D (j/k about the tie).

Anyway the written exam and the PT is given the same day if my memory serves me right. The PT is pretty easy when compared to the Northern SP PTs. The only thing of note about the PT is that you will be running on a dirt track. That might be of importance to some. The written test consists of a multiple-choice section and a video based section .For the video part, you watch a scenario and recall facts and procedures from a pamphlet they mailed out weeks before, for you to study. If you studied it, that part shouldn’t be a problem. After the initial testing you come back for your oral. During the oral they ask everyone the same 6 or 8 life experience questions (now would I be doing them a favor if I were to tell them to you) I’m sadden that I can’t talk about the lie detector test or the background. I didn’t reach that far. But I can talk about the academy because I was listening during orientation.

The academy is 7 months long and is one of the longest in the country. Some where in the middle of the academy you leave the academy and go out with an FTO for a few weeks and practice what you learned in the academy. After that, you go back to the academy and fine tune your abilities. Then you graduate. Now you get your take home and your very own FTO for 4 weeks. The VSP academy is very academic orientated. So you better have more than the base G.E.D or high school diploma requirement, if you don’t want to have a too tough of a time there.

I would test again, but I just get a feeling from the VSP that if you don’t have military (I have a degree) getting on is close to impossible if you leva outside the state. I think military gives them something for them to relate with you if you are an outsider. If you leave in the state, military, I don’t think is that important as it is for someone coming from outside, especially north. But it is always a plus.

Good luck:hustle:
